6 Devereaux St, Warracknabeal, might just be the most impressive regional shed conversion you’ll see.

A Victorian man who turned a dusty shed in a quiet town into an eye-catching man cave has revealed he didn’t even know where the town was when he bought it online.

Cameron Watson, a tradie across multiple disciplines, bought the then simple shed at 6 Devereaux St Warracknabeal, for just $72,000 in 2021.

Then he looked up where Warracknabeal was and discovered it was about a 3 hour and 45 minute drive from Melbourne.

“I just wanted a property, saw the shed and thought ‘that will do’,” Mr Watson said.

“Then I looked up where it was.”

A 3.5-year conversion that’s topped the $100,000 mark followed, with the addition of everything from a loft-style bedroom area to a living area, kitchen, bathroom and even surprise extras like concealed storage beneath the stairs and a coffee table made from a red gum burl and a motorcycle frame.

The property now boasts an incredible living room area — but still has room to park a Harley Davidson.

“There’s a chandelier that’s a few wagon wheels combined,” Mr Watson said.

“And the kitchen bench tops are 250-year old Jarrah.

“It’s calming, sitting in there. And it’s insulated and sound proofed.”

He’s even added airconditioning.

Upon inspecting the property he initially considered lifting the shed up and moving it further back on the block, but ultimately decided to simply upgrade what was there — and then add another shed at the rear.

“Anyone who has been in there wants to buy it. People are just shocked, they walk in and just go ‘what the …’,” Mr Watson said.

Rustic, but still full of style from the red gum walls, to the wagon wheel chandelier.

It used to look a little different on the inside.

Other additions to the property include a motorcycle statue he’s now sold to a mate and a rustic front veranda.

Mr Watson said the property had passed muster with council, but was still technically used as a garage.

“I park my Harley in the living room,” he said.

Elders real estate agent Nick McIntyre has just listed the unusual property for $219,000 and said he’d already started getting a bit of interest for it.

“It’s all done out of red gum and steel, and I haven’t seen anything like it before,” Mr McIntyre said.

One of the property’s more recent additions was a … shed.

“From time to time you get people who put a bathroom in a shed, and it’ll be the only thing they have on the block then they come up with the caravan, but I haven’t seen anything transformed like that.”

While he said it would take just the right buyer, the agent noted it was unlikely you’d be able to match it for the price today.

Mr Watson said his plan after the sale was to put the money into buying a bus and travelling around Australia.

“I’ve never travelled, but there’s nothing holding me back,” he said.
