A Toorak Gardens home has been given a breathtaking transformation to offer an old-meets-new aesthetic in one of the state’s most sought-after locales.

Vendors Jo and Dan bought the home at 134 Grant Ave in 2014, attracted by its significant landholding, character charm and prestigious address.

Eleven years on, the property they are selling with a $7.5m to $8m price guide retains the same period charm, but also offers a contemporary renovation that will ensure it delights for generations to come.

The Toorak Gardens home at 134 Grant Ave is both stunning and functional.

A renovation has given it a new lease on life.

It’s modern and open throughout.

The outdoor entertainment area has plenty of space for guests.

“We were determined to get a lovely, big property, and I really wanted a period home,” Jo says.

“I found this one when Dan was in New Zealand and I rang him and said: ‘we’re getting this house’.

“We sat on it for a few years, just enjoying it and getting to really understand it before we started on the renovation.

“The renovation was probably a three-year process – at least a year of planning and then nearly two years of building.

During that time, our three boys turned into young men and they have absolutely loved this house – it has really been brilliant for us.

“The end result is incredible. We put a lot of thought into it, making it not just beautiful and as high a quality as possible, but also really practical, so it’s packed with storage options throughout.”

The home has up to five bedrooms – or four and a study – a sitting room, a library, and an open-plan kitchen, meals and living area.

Below the house you’ll find a three-car garage with a storeroom, a mudroom and a car turntable; and the home also has a separate rumpus room or gym.

Outside you’ll find a spacious patio, a protected outdoor pavilion, a sparkling pool and a tennis court.

Jo says its size and layout make it a phenomenal entertainer.

“There’s lots of space for everybody,” she says.

“For my 50th birthday we had at least 120 people there, and for Christmases we seat 30 people inside easily.

“One of the things we have loved the most about it is that it has really been a safe space for our boys and their friends.

“All of their mates would come over and they’d put some music on and kick a ball around.

“It has been absolutely amazing.”

With just one child at home now, Jo says it is time to hand the home over to another family who will enjoy it to the fullest.

“We’re looking to downsize and travel more and this really is a bit more than we need at this stage of our lives,” Jo says.

“We would love to see it go to another family and have their children grow up here, because it really is a family home, and a wonderful one at that.”
