After a rollercoaster auction day which saw two houses passed in –one without a single bid – West Australian cops Britt and Taz have won The Block, walking away $520,000 richer.
The couple, who are already back on the beat in Newman (a remote country town 1800km from Perth) say the life changing prize was a bittersweet victory.
“It’s sort of mixed feelings at the moment, but I couldn’t be more proud of Britt, I couldn’t have been more proud of our team,” Taz said.
“We’re not from the glitz and glamor of the high-end cities that we are staying in recently. We’re just small-town country coppers, and now we can just take a bit of a breath and really just look after the kids. That was our whole plan going forward and that’s what we’ve done.”
The pair quickly became fan favourites with viewers and at home it has made them local legends.
“We finished in June. We went to air. And we were back out on the road with a gun on our hip pretty soon after,” Taz, a proud Tharawal (Darawul) man, laughs.
“The local indigenous community, they’ve really embraced us as well as they always have. But now they know we’re on TV, so it’s not uncommon for them to be sitting around town with the free Wi Fi on a couple of phones, watching The Block.”
Although they enjoy their policework, The Block has opened doors to new ventures.
“I can’t really discuss offers,” Taz said coyly on making a more permanent move into TV presenting. “I didn’t love building, obviously, as you can tell, but I do love the media.”
And Britt is considering a future in interior design.

Britt and Taz’s auction, which kicked off the day and attracted a flurry of bids before ultimately selling to an unknown buyer through an advocate for $3.41million, was the high point of the day.
The impact of Adrian Portelli retiring his paddle in 2024 and reserves set at a whopping $2.99million took a toll on the results.
With Portelli out of the mix, Block stalwart Danny Wallis returned to reclaim his crown as the biggest spender in the room. After confusing auctioneers with his signature erratic bidding style, the eccentric Wallis scooped up Robby and Mat’s house for $3,099,999
The sum left hairdressing pals Robby and Mat to split the profit of roughly $109,999.
Disappointed, Mat admitted “We’re not feeling sensitive, we’re f***ed off!”
Looking on the bright side, Robby (who left his partner and baby son at home in Adelaide to film the show) added: “there’s hundreds of thousands of people who sit on the couch wishing they’re in our shoes.
“And like we said, we laughed and we cried every day, but I think out the whole street, we enjoyed the experience the most. Yes, I did miss 40 per cent of my son’s life being on the show. It’s more the guilt of being away from my partner as a new mum, but she’s a real hero. I was hoping to bring some more money home for them today.”

Also crestfallen were new parents Emma and Ben and controversial couple Han and Can whose properties were passed in.
Reading the room after watching Robby and Mat’s experience, Emma and Ben paused their excruciatingly slow auction before it hit the market for fear they could end up pocketing just a few thousand for their efforts.
Admitting he was “devastated,” a tearful Ben said he would be satisfied if they could attract at least $3.1million for the house.
“$100,000 is nothing to turn your nose up at,” he said.
“So, we’d be stoked with that. But you can’t help but feel like you’re losers on the finale of a great show. It puts a bit of a dampener on it.”
Sonny and Alicia as well as Han and Can’s auctioneers opened with a vendor bid to keep sale prices north of $3million.
Ultimately, Sonny and Alicia’s place sold for $3.06million, netting them a $120,000 profit on top of the car that they won earlier in the season.
The pragmatic Queenslanders felt satisfied as they’d been bracing themselves to leave with nothing.

Despite copping some horrendous trolling –which left her so distressed she was left bedridden for two days and contemplating seeking medical treatment – Alicia would happily return for an All Stars season.
“If that phone rang tomorrow, we would 100 per cent come back [even if we won nothing],” she said.
Han and Can –who were also on the receiving end of a lot of online abuse– failed to attract a single bid over their vendor’s opener of $3.1million.
The pair have no regrets and have come out of their time on the show stronger as a couple and as individuals.
Philosophical about their results, aspiring real estate agent Can reflected: “The median house price here is around $825,000 so these are remarkably premium homes and to have five under the hammer in one day was a tough, tough task.
“But I’m proud of our team. I’m proud of Han, proud of The Block and we did everything we could.”
