The Block 2024 episodes 42/43 recap: Now it’s Kylie being excluded after nasty dinner party storm out

1 week ago 10

Kylie and Brad have discovered it’s not easy being green — especially when your landscaper forgets to order the plants in garden week.

Much like Ricky and Haydn, the couple have been dealing with delays all week because their properties are at the far end of the chaotic worksite where the driveway is often too overrun with tradespeople and cars for trucks to navigate quickly.

The couple assumed the backlog of delayed deliveries was why no plants had turned up on site. As the deadline for tools down loomed. Kylie did a bit of digging with the nursery and discovered, to her horror, that her landscaper never actually placed an order.

This news came after foreman Dan told a crestfallen Brad he had ordered the wrong cement, putting them even further behind.

In addition to the difficulties with their garden works, the drama with neighbours Maddy and Charlotte looked no closer to being put to bed after the latest dust-up over dinner.

Kylie stormed out of the meal when the sisters tried to explain that they hadn’t technically lied when they told everyone they were in finance (without mentioning that they also had a sideline in property flipping).

“I feel a bit heartbroken, I know that sounds dramatic but I am really sad,” Maddy sighed.

“Kylie, from the minute we arrived, didn’t even acknowledge our presence.”

The sisters don’t feel they did anything wrong, reasoning that they were happy to share information when asked.

And Kylie never asked. Mimi did and was told the truth, but she conveniently forgot that conversation when she was sticking the boot into the girls for lying.

To her credit, Mimi felt bad enough about what has gone down to invite Maddy and Charlotte out for dinner (but first Mimi had to get permission from Kylie that dining with the enemy won’t see her in the firing line too). Courtney and Grant (who are nonplussed the sisters are covert property flippers) also came along.

Maddy is heartbroken at the way the other contestants behaved in the early episodes.

When Ricky and Haydn rocked up (uninvited), things got awkward. Maddy and Charlotte understandably felt concerned that their casual dinner had become an exclusionary event where everyone attended except — you guessed it — Kylie and Brad.

But the dinner did mend fences and an elated Maddy finally found herself included in a girls’ shopping trip with Courtney and Mimi. Again, Kylie was a notable absentee.

It wasn’t all bad news for Kylie and Brad.

The couple pocketed $5000 for coming closest to guessing how much they’d spent on their home. While teams such as Maddy and Charlotte spent hours trying to figure out their outlay, Kylie used a “how many jelly beans are in the jar” approach and guesstimated her way to victory.

Ricky and Haydn also had something of a winning week. While everyone had their heads down focused on their gardens, the boys took part in a fox-themed scavenger hunt, hoping to secure the buggy and scooter that is up for grabs. The first (and only) duo to undertake the hunt, they were rewarded with $5000 in fishing gear. They also got themselves a vital clue for a later challenge.

The pair then came into a second windfall, winning $10,000 for being the best at managing their money. The cash injection was just what they needed as they attempt to tackle their front and back gardens without the help of a landscaper.

Maddy and Charlotte’s controversial spiral staircase goes in.

Meanwhile, Maddy and Charlotte took possession of their much-hyped spiral staircase, Grant took a big risk with his polished cement seating and Kristian and Mimi’s pushy landscaper, Troy, became public enemy number one.

With a mountain of landscaping to finish and chaos at every turn to navigate, it was the perfect time for Shelley Craft to swing past to chat to the contestants about how much they had to do rather than just letting them get on with actually doing it.

While touring the worksites, Shelley and Scott Cam urged Kristian to rein in his wayward landscaper who was playing fast and loose with the rules.

One peeved building supervisor even went as far as to moan: “It’s become the Troy show.”

Penalising Kristian and Mimi for Troy’s actions (undertaking jobs without permission and pushing his way to the front of every queue), their site was shut down early.

Grant is peeved that Kristian and Mimi’s landscaper Troy is caused delivery delays.

The hosts then nattered to Kylie and Brad about the benefits of their property having private access to the communal tennis court.

“A family who loves black and loves tennis is going to love this place,” Scotty joked.

“It’s a very niche market.”

Kylie, of course, didn’t take the playful banter in the spirit it was intended, huffing: “You don’t have to love black to like this house. It’s not all black.”

And, if they don’t manage to snare a few plants soon, it won’t be very green either.
