The Block 2024 episode 48 recap: Kylie explodes at Scott Cam then flees barefoot into the dark

2 weeks ago 14

Kylie finished out the week on site… but it’s clear she’s a ticking timebomb.

She explodes into rages throughout the show’s final days, culminating in her walking out of the judging session and walking barefoot down the side of a pitch-black road while producers and Brad try frantically to find her.

The final week of teams working on their houses sees them finishing their outdoor areas.

Maddy and Charlotte are broke, so their front yard is a basic expanse of lawn with a nicely styled garage featuring a wallpaper with vintage Phillip Island beach scene.

The judges like the design of Kylie and Brad’s barbecue section but questioned the lack of a lounge set.

Next door, Courtney and Grant are flush with cash after multiple room wins and perfect 10s and fill their front yard with hundreds of plants, a mature olive tree, custom double wooden front doors, tiled deck to the main suite and steel entry arbour.

Ricky and Haydn are relying on their 21m-tall palm tree and bright pink garage door for wow factor.

Kristian and Mimi are filling their upstairs balcony with multiple dining areas and a lounge with a gated side driveway for parking boats or extra cars and a shed downstairs.

Kylie and Brad’s front facade won plaudits for the circular stepping stones and mirror but brickbats for the artwork and hanging pendants.

But Kylie and Brad are in struggle town. They don’t have much cash, and Kylie’s swinging between going through the motions and sweary outbursts.

When she discovers the lounge setting she thought she’d ordered isn’t available Maddy approaches Brad to offer them a spare outdoor couch and chairs she ordered but doesn’t need.

Kylie’s reaction?

“F*** no. I don’t want anyone’s seconds.”

Then she discovers the on-site painter has left an unpainted section of their façade. When the site manager arrives to finish the job she screams obscenities and orders him and his crew to leave.

“I want everyone gone. I’m not kidding. Get them out. Tell them to leave. I don’t want their help.”

It’s hard to tell if this is still a reaction to last week’s flirting scandal or something more, but it all comes to a head at judging, with Kylie storming off set after an argument with Scott Cam saying of The Block host “I hate this man so much”.

The judges are generally kind in this final assessment of the houses, with plenty of positive feedback.

Ricky and Haydn’s front garden was judged both fun and chic by Darren Palmer.

Darren Palmer declares Ricky and Haydn have found the perfect blend of “fun and chic” with their bright pink garage door, front door and classic flamingo. But Marty Fox’s says their gravel backyard will become a “slush pile” in winter and notes the vegetable growing cubes are superfluous for what is likely to be a holiday house.

All judges are of the opinion that Mimi and Kristian’s balcony barbecue should have been downstairs, but are fans of their lockable side driveway with shed.

Charlotte and Maddy’s fairly barren front yard gets a basic pass but the judges like the vintage Phillip Island beach scene wallpaper in the garage.

But even though Kylie said she and Brad’s front yard had “no wow factor”, she’s outraged when the judges agree with her own assessment.

The judges questioned the practicality of the vegetable growing cubes in what will most likely be a holiday house, and worried that the gravel section would become a mud pit in winter in Ricky and Haydn’s back yard.

Ready to take offence at anything, she’s even salty when Scott says the judges “came in smiling noting that you could play hopscotch on the stepping stones”.

When they comment on the lack of a lounge setting, the inappropriate placing of artwork on the front façade and the hanging pendant lights in the entry way that are likely to swing in the wind she reaches boiling point.

“Alright, let’s wrap it up,” she tells Scott.

Kylie not hiding her feelings about the judges’ feedback.

“Kylie, I’m not going to wrap it up because this is part of the deal, unfortunately. I’m reading out feedback, the last feedback from the judges that you’re going to get on your houses so I’d really appreciate if you didn’t tell me to wrap it up,” he responds.

“I really couldn’t care,” she replies.

Her mood doesn’t improve even when the judges touch on the things they like about Kylie and Brad’s house, such as Marty Fox calling their move to create a personal gate into the communal tennis court “a gift”.

Instead, she just gets angrier and angrier as a frantic Brad tries to talk her down.

“I know you’re upset,” he says.

“Don’t f***ing talk to me,” she responds before muttering “there’s people that don’t even need money”.

Kristian and Mimi’s balcony has plenty of seating for dining but only room for four in the lounge area.

“I’m not wasting my time here anymore,” she then tells Brad. “I’m not. We’re not.”

When the judges inevitably hand the win, and the prize of a car, to Courtney and Grant, she’s done, stalking out followed by Brad and producer and camera person.

“I’ll break that camera if you come anywhere f***ing near me,” she says, taking off her high heels and running off into the darkness as producers beg her to return.

“She’s legging it barefoot down the middle of the road,” one of them reports back to Scott Cam.

Kylie takes off her shoes before fleeing the set.

When Brad and two producers jump into a car to give chase they find her walking down the side of a dark road.

“It’s dark, it’s unsafe, this is like a scene from a horror movie,” a producer tells her. “Dude, just get in with Brad.”

When she finally relents and gets in the car, Kylie tells Brad she’s leaving and won’t be attending the auction, even if it means they get no money from the experience.
