Test cricketer James Pattinson and his wife Kayla have listed the Black Rock house they built together.
Former Australian Test cricketer James Pattinson and wife Kayla are hoping their $3.4m-$3.7m bayside wicket will bowl over buyers.
The couple built the four-bedroom Black Rock home in 2023 with plans to live there alongside their three young daughters for a few years, before selling in order to purchase another abode on a larger block.
Two years earlier, Pattinson embarked on a building apprenticeship following his retirement from cricket due to a back injury.

The fast bowler made his Test debut in a 2011-2012 home series against New Zealand where he was named Man of the Series.
His other career highlights include the 2015 West Indies tour of Australia, captaining Australia at the 2017 International Cricket Council’s Champions Trophy and being part of the 2019 Ashes’ Aussie squad.
Pattinson and Kayla worked together to renovate and sell their previous homes before building their latest offering.
The father-of-three said he was involved with the construction while Kayla, who studied architectural design, covers design, budgets and plenty of hands-on work.
“We always thought that you build a house for you to love and then hopefully someone else loves it just as much as you,” he added.
The kitchen boasts an integrated Fisher & Paykel fridge and freezer, terrazzo-style concrete flooring, Taj Mahal quartzite and Emerald Haze stone surfaces and American Oak veneer cabinetry.
The fully tiled, heat-pump heated pool and spa sit near the outdoor shower.

Their three-level home, listed with Buxton Glen Eira’s Chris Hassall, features an outdoor pool, spa and shower, plus an office and interior lightwell with a vertical garden.
The kitchen is equipped with a Fisher & Paykel fridge and freezer, terrazzo-style concrete flooring and stone surfaces including Taj Mahal quartzite, a natural stone from Brazil.
The impressive basement area is kitted out with a cinema lounge space, gym incorporating a steam room and bathroom, bar with a 42-bottle display, and dedicated children’s play gym.
Two bedrooms have a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, while the double garage offers an electric vehicle charger.
There’s a main bathroom, two ensuites, a bathroom in the basement gym and a powder room in the home. That’s some serious bathroom wow-factor.

Pattinson says that he and Kayla’s three daughters “took over” the basement with their jungle gym and other play equipment, but it was a great area for the girls to spend time with their friends.
Cricketing memorabilia is on display in the basement such as photos and a shirt from Pattinson’s Test debut.
However, he installed the bar and wine section just before listing the residence, as his daughters “took over” the basement with their jungle gym and a movable ball pit after moving in.
Pattinson said the build had been pretty rewarding especially seeing people’s reactions to the finished house, and how interested his children were in learning about the construction process.
A hydronic panel, in-floor heating, zoned climate control, CCTV security and a multi-panel solar system are among the highlights.

Pattinson says his treasured memories of the home include cooking for, and entertaining, friends and family in addition to watching movies in the basement home cinema.
He compared developing friendships with his fellow tradies as similar to getting to know his cricket mates.
“The building site is usually a fun place where you can have a laugh and joke and you know there’s times to be serious as well, it’s similar with cricket and sport,” he said.
He and Kayla are not planning on moving too far away as they love Black Rock.
Mr Hassell said the house would suit families, including multiple generations, and buyers who enjoy entertaining – or even working out, thanks to the gym set-up.
