A Geilston Bay home on an expansive 4047sq m lot was Tasmania’s standout property last week.
And new owners have secured it.
No.51 Walana St shot to the top of realestate.com.au’s charts of the most-viewed homes of the week, with many thousands of clicks.
Peterswald director Harry Coomer and property representative Nick Machin said the property attracted 36 groups to its open home and half a dozen private inspections.
Mr Coomer called it a perfect storm: it launched after the federal government budget, with confidence rising and younger buyers ready to act quickly to purchase before stamp duty concessions ended at the end of the financial year.
The home’s price started just under the $750,000 cap for duty exemption, and attracted a number of young purchasers.

“It was an interesting property. When we appraised it, our feedback to the owner was: it is amazing, but it also has its challenges,” Mr Coomer said.
“The driveway is steep, which is difficult to show in photos.
“The block size is 4000sq m, which is often something people dream of. But the sloping bushland presents a challenge as to what the next owner might want to do with it.
“We were not surprised that, online, it had incredible traction.
“And when you are inside, it has a great feel — it’s magical.”

No.51 is a property that ticked many boxes: a desirable suburb, good size and accommodation, and the price was pretty affordable for the current Hobart market.
“It sold for a touch over the asking price. It was a strong outcome,” Mr Coomer said.
