A Sydney home known for its unique architecture has set a new local record with its $17.5m sale.
Known as ‘Copper House’ because of its distinct, metallic brown facade, the home’s sale marks the highest price ever achieved for a beachfront property between Freshwater and Whale Beach, an approximately 25km stretch along Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
The four-bedroom property on Myola Rd, Newport, was designed by architect Peter Stutchbury and built in 2006.
‘Copper House’ in Newport has sold for $17.5m.
It was listed in late October this year with a guide of $15.5m-$17m.
Property records show that the home previously sold for $8.5m in 2019, meaning the home’s value has increased by $9m in just six years – or by about $1.5m for each year they owned it.
It is a huge windfall for previous owners Andrew and Jo Moore, who lived at the home during this six year period.
Mr Moore said his family enjoyed the open-plan design and views from the property.
“It’s just beachfront living at its best,” he said.
“You can lie in bed and literally watch the surf at Newport peak”.
“It’s a house where people love to drop in.
“We’ve had many impromptu visitors and parties over the years.”

Its sale marks a record price for a beachfront property between two of Sydney’s northern beaches.
Mr Moore said the home’s build, which used concrete, timber, glass, bronze and copper throughout, reportedly cost over $7 million to complete.
Among the home’s finer inclusions are a heated mineral pool, a fitness studio, a steam room and sauna and a wine cellar with its own ‘tasting space’.
The home backs directly onto Newport Beach.

The previous owners loved the open plan design.
Ray White Northern Beaches agent Emma Blake said there was “exceptional interest” in the property, with its listing creating “a buzz” online.
“The property generated extraordinary interest from both eastern suburbs and local buyers, predominantly empty nesters seeking a stunning retreat where family could gather on weekends and holidays,” Ms Blake said.
“The property’s architectural significance, combined with its unparalleled beachfront position directly on Newport Beach, was a major drawcard.”
