Sydney houses have become gold mines amid growing demand for locations to use for reality TV.
Sydney homeowners are sitting on a potential gold mine amid rising demand for houses to use as TV sets, with production companies paying up to $10,000 a week or $200 an hour to film at some homes.
The city’s real estate market has evolved into a money-making backdrop for unscripted drama, facilitated by platforms like Peerspace and agencies such as Pure Locations.
For everyday property owners, the appetite for fresh locations is driving explosive earnings.
Since launching in Australia in 2022, the online marketplace Peerspace has seen production-related bookings – such as video and photo shoots – become its most popular category.
“In Sydney in particular, we’re seeing consistent demand for studios and residential spaces,” said Peerspace’s chief marketing officer Luke Tarbi.
