1048 Barrenjoey Rd, Palm Beach, is being sold complete with a Reg Mombassa pen and ink drawing.

A Reg Mombassa drawing or print is included in the sale of one of Palm Beach’s last fisherman’s cottages.

Snapperman is a restored post-war cottage on a large 1056 sqm near level block of land in Palm Beach going to auction in May with a $4.5m guide.

It caught the eye of the renowned artist Reg Mombassa who undertook a pen and ink drawing of the home for the owners.

In fact the drawing will form part of his first solo exhibition in years to be held in Redfern in June.

The Barrenjoey Rd cottage is owned by Joel Schuberg and his partner interior designer Nicole Vatselias.

Joel has worked with Reg for years managing his website and running his studio.

Reg Mombassa, born Chris O’Doherty, started out with the pop band Mental As Anything as vocalist and lead guitar.

He still tours with his brother Pete under the band name Dog Trumpet. But Reg’s artwork is perhaps more widely known appearing on iconic posters and T-shirts for fashion label Mambo.

He was a finalist in the Archibald Prize and his work sells for thousands of dollars apiece.

The four-bedroom cottage Snapperman has sandstone foundations, hardwood floors and Oregon pine framing.

It has undergone a sympathetic renovation by designers at LuMu Studios and has new plumbing and electrics, ducted airconditioning and smart home automation.

Joel said the house was rundown and neglected when they bought and they were in two minds whether to demolish and rebuild or renovate.

“The house decided for us, it was sound with so many original features. We wanted to keep it character because there are so few of these cottages left,” he said.

The property has been recently renovated by designers at LuMu Studios.

The beach is 150m away from the front of the cottage and the back garden opens into McKay Reserve with its rock formations and gullies.

Joel is offering a Reg Mombassa drawing or print in the sale, although he’s not sure he wants to part with the original drawing Reg gave them.

“We will work something out for the buyers,” he said.
