115 Russells Rd, Mount Duneed, is selling via an expressions of interest campaign.

Arriving at this treasured family haven in Mount Duneed, it’s hard to believe Geelong’s major growth corridor is just a kilometre away as the crow flies.

Secluded is a word that pops up frequently in conversation with the vendor about the 16.19ha lifestyle property he and his wife have the called home for almost 30 years.

“There really is a feeling of quiet seclusion here. There’s lots of bird life and natural habitat for things. It’s got access to all of the facilities and yet you feel as if you are out in the country,” he says. “Our big family thoroughly enjoyed it … they love coming here – it’s become a bit of a Camelot for family.”

One of Geelong’s oldest homes transformed

Many of the couple’s five adult children have returned to the nest at 115 Russells Rd, Mount Duneed, at various times, taking advantage of the house’s seven bedrooms, multiple living zones and expansive grounds home to a salt-chlorinated swimming pool.

One guest bedroom has access to a private lounge, which came in handy when one daughter moved in with her young family for nine months.

The vendors remodelled and rendered the original brown brick farmhouse in the early 2000s, extending the central living space to the north and enlarging the deck.

The installation of a gas-strut servery window in kitchen has further enhanced the connection to the magnificent surrounding gardens, which include a fire pit area and lawn.

The seven-bedroom home is set among established gardens that add to the sense of privacy.

The open-plan living has a wood heater and kitchen featuring double Ilve electric ovens, a gas cooktop, a walk-in pantry with wine storage and a dishwasher.

Crazy paving surrounds the salt-chlorinated, self-cleaning pool.

“We have always had that nice outlook but we put that kiosk window in a couple of years ago and it’s just great to have that open – you feel as if you are washing the dishes outside,” the vendor says.

As a keen reader, he is also big fan of the adjacent den, “a lovely little room” with its own tranquil garden outlook.

Views to the south have been enhanced over time, with former sheep paddocks converted into what the vendor calls “the meadow”.

There still four main paddocks with troughs connected town water at the property, supported by two dams and multiple water tanks.

The vendors have had kept and agisted cattle, sheep and horses over the years.

“We have done a whole lot of gum trees on approach from the drive and a lot of plantations around the paddocks for extra protection from the southerlies,” he says.

The second living room has an open fireplace.

The garden makes a beautiful backdrop to entertaining on the north-facing deck.

The spacious main bedroom has a leafy garden view.

He says the house itself is set 300m back from the road, occupying a 2.4ha square “home area” that includes garaging, shedding, a chook pen, vegetable garden and an original tennis court.

Most people who visit comment they never knew the pocket even existed despite it being so close to the Surf Coast and Geelong.

“I’m an ocean swimmer so I go down there every couple of days and yet I maintained a professional practice in Melbourne the whole time I was here and I would just jump on the train so it’s a really good spot for access,” he says.

HF Richardson, Newtown agent Tony Hyde is calling for expressions of interest in 115 Russells Rd, Mount Duneed by May 18 at noon.

Price hopes are $4.2m to $4.4m.
