The dream of a backyard tennis court has served up a grand slam home in the form of a Shaun Lockyer designed masterpiece onan epic 2000sq m block at Wilston.

Featuring hanging gardens, natural stone, and off-form concrete, the two-storey home at 22 Prospect St includes five bedrooms, a 10-car garage, championship tennis court, saltwater pool, rooftop viewing platform, and city views.

The championship-sized tennis court

Brisbane real estate agent Alistair Macmillan and his wife Mary are the owners of the stunning home after purchasing the site about five years ago.

“Initially we were thinking about renovating the existing house on the site, which had been there since the 1980s,” Mr Macmillansaid.

“But then we met with Shaun Lockyer and decided to start from scratch.”

Resort-style pool

The Macmillans’ vision was to build a family home with resort-style amenity and an uncompromising finish.

“We have three daughters and the whole idea was to create a home that would cater to them through their teens and into adulthood so they could come and go, yet still have independence,” Mr Macmillan said.

The open plan living areas

Completed a year ago, the property has more than met that brief, delivering a visually captivating yet practical family home where no expense has been spared.

Stepped into the hill, the residence features three bedrooms plus a family room and outdoor gym on the lower level, while the upper floor boasts a master suite, guest suite, state-of-the-art kitchen and open plan livings paces leading to an alfresco area overlooking the pool.

The cosy lounge

“We wanted something that sat well within the landscape,” Mr Macmillan said.

“I love the fact it nestles into its surroundings and even though it’s high end, the house does not compromise on the practicalities of raising a family.”

City views

Nor does it compromise on premium features, including European oak timber floors, wool carpet, marble and porcelain stonebenchtops, and a kitchen anchored by a full Miele appliance suite.

Outdoors, the heated saltwater pool sits alongside a covered pavilion complete with outdoor kitchen and barbecue, fireplace, and outdoor shower.

Hanging gardens are a feature

It’s a combination that Mr Macmillan says makes the home ideal for daily family life and entertaining.

“There’s a two-way fireplace between the inside dining area and the outdoor entertaining space, so the majority of our time is spent in those areas either entertaining or as a family,” MrMacmillan said.

“And the house is amazing for entertaining. We had our daughter’s semi-formal after party here with 150 peopleon the tennis court with a DJ.”

The 10-car garage

Having his own backyard tennis court had been a long-held dream for Mr Macmillan, and he has relished the opportunity to throw himself into a game he has loved since childhood.

“I bought a ball machine, and I have played so much tennis that I gave myself tennis elbow and bursitis,” he said.

It’s just one feature of a property that Mr Macmillan says his family has loved.

And as a real estate agent with more than 25 years’ experience specialising in the Wilston area, Mr Macmillan knows just how rare the opportunity was to build his dream home in such a tightly-held suburb.

“We hit the jackpot in terms of finding a site where we could start from scratch and give one of the country’s best architects free rein,” he said.
