Radio Eyewear co-founder Anthony Lacarruba and his partner Kaela have listed their young family’s Torquay home.
Creativity runs in the family for Rip Curl art director and co-founder of Surf Coast sunglasses label Radio Eyewear, Anthony Lacarruba.
The Torquay entrepreneur has built an accessory brand around collaborating with Aussie musicians and labels.
But it was a partnership with his dad, an architect, that helped shape the design of his family’s first home.

The facade features vertical timber battens and an oversized pivot door.
The main living room has timber floors and wood heater.
His parents even moved down to Torquay from Melbourne temporarily to help out with the build, completed five years ago.
The custom three-bedroom house at 4 Powell St, Torquay, has just hit the market for $1.195m to $1.25m through Natural, Torquay agent Kellie Papworth.
Mr Lacarruba and partner Kaela have bought land for a new building project in the area.
He said he drew on his dad’s experience to design their first digs with a focus on family life and working from home.
“We sat down together and designed it, drew it all up and ending up building it together,” he said.
“The idea was just to have every room useful. I have seen a lot of houses with reverse living but the downstairs never really gets used or there are living spaces that never really get used.”
Timber highlights and an island bench feature in the kitchen.
The downstairs living room was designed to be versatile.
An external spiral staircase links decks on both levels.
They took a novel approach to the garage, installing a 3-4m custom sliding door linking it to the downstairs living room and office.
“You can open it up and I do my painting in the garage, do my work in the study or have the TV on. It was just to create a big open area and treat like the garage like a room,” Mr Lacarruba said.
The coastal-inspired facade features vertical timber battens, an oversized pivot entry door and double-height glazing.
Upstairs, a light-filled living zone with a premium kitchen connects to a barbecue area.
Architectural concrete stair treads were among custom additions incorporated along the way.
“The plan just had a straight staircase and I had the idea of fanning it out and we just it on the spot, which is the beauty of a custom house,” he said.
Mr Lacarruba balances his full time Rip Curl gig with his Radio Eyewear side hustle, which he launched with a friend about the time the house was finished.
The label has collaborated with band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, DJ Roza Terenzi and Crumpler.
