The character home was relocated to 9 Todd St, Teesdale, more than 60 years ago.

The relocation of a Victorian-era house to Teesdale more than half a century ago laid the foundation for a one-off country property packed with character.

The current vendors have added their own twist to the story of ‘Yoothapina House’, lovingly restoring and rejuvenating the four-bedroom heritage home with its signature two-storey turret.

Hayeswinckle, Highton agent Ray Rounds said they had transformed the 3890sq m grounds of 9 Todd St, Teesdale, into a lush garden paradise.

Now, they’re seeking a new owner with an appreciation for its historic appeal.

A 1910 Victorian Railways guards van in one of the property’s garden rooms provides scope for a another quirky conversion project should the buyers wish to continue the legacy.

Mr Rounds said the home was the antithesis of a cookie cutter.

“It was built in 1888 and it was moved onto the site about 60 years ago so it’s been there for quite a while,” he said.

“It’s just beautifully presented and it’s been updated, it’s had a new kitchen and new flooring, and they have done the garden so it’s a beautiful setting.

“The couple have had family gatherings for 50 to 60 people out there in the garden and Christmas is always abuzz with kids running around.”

The vendors have created a series of garden rooms throughout the expansive grounds.

The front lounge has a traditional feel.

For adults and kids alike, the cosy second floor retreat at the top of the turret is a treat. It’s the crowning glory of a main bedroom wing that includes a walk-in wardrobe on the tower’s first floor.

Beyond the wraparound verandas, the rest of the house blends period features including original cypress pine flooring, wall panelling and restored Victorian-era internal doors with modern updates like a renovated country kitchen.

Green Grub Nursery designed the enchanting garden, incorporating winding gravel paths, red brick paving and a reclaimed timber gazebo.

The deck has hosted many a family gathering.

A wood heater features in the family room.

The old railway guard van could be converted into a studio.

Mr Rounds said the vendors inherited the railway van when they bought the property but, apart from underground electrical wiring, it was untouched.

“That has got potential to have some work done to it internally, whether it be another teenage retreat or art studio or maybe a separate office for people to work from home,” he said.

Price hopes are $1.4m to $1.5m.
