Planespotting is becoming more popular than ever, with aircraft enthusiasts travelling great distances to any number of the parking bays around Adelaide Airport in order to catch that perfect photo of their favourite jet.

But if you were to buy this West Richmond time capsule, you’ll be able to kiss those pesky commutes goodbye.

On the market through Harris Real Estate’s Anne Einarson and Dijana Sladic is 44 Passmore St – a 50s-built home with all of its original charm perfectly preserved.

Its fence adjoins the Adelaide Airport, offering uninterrupted aircraft views, and perhaps the ideal place to pursue a passionate pastime.

“It’s been on the market for a week already and there’s been a strong level of interest in it from young first-home buyers and those looking at it as a renovation or potential development,” Ms Einarson said.

“People love it – some have said they want to be there for as long as the current owner has had it for, which is 63 years.

“It’s an incredibly reluctant sale – it’s only due to old age and ill-health that has forced the owner to go into care.

“It was a tough decision for the family to make.”

The home sits on a 780sqm allotment and has three bedrooms, a family bathroom with separate bath and shower, a front lounge and a rear laundry.

In the backyard you’ll find a garage and a granny flat with an ensuite.

“I’ve had people interested in it who work at the airport and they’ve said it’s incredibly conveniently located for that – if you worked for one of the airlines it’d be perfect,” Ms Einarson said.

“It’s also so close to town and the beach, and its affordable – we’re looking at land value because it does need renovating.

“It hasn’t changed since it was built, with the possible exception of the carpet which looks more like it was laid in the 70s.

“All of the furnishings in there are from the 60s too, so it’s definitely a time capsule.”

Activity on online planespotting forums has increased in recent years, due in part to the increase in popularity of flight-tracking apps and the improvement of smartphone cameras, allowing people to capture quality, detailed images from a distance.

Ms Einarson said despite its neighbour, the aircraft noise was not as loud as it would be for residents in North Adelaide, Glenelg, Torrensville and Cowandilla who were immediately under the flight path.

“It’s not under the flight path, it’s just over from it, so you can watch the planes come in, but they’re not flying directly overhead, and then they take off the other way, so I haven’t really heard them whenever I’ve been here,” she said.

“Certainly a lot of people love planes and people track them through monitoring apps, looking up into the sky and identifying them and for those people, this place would be perfect.

“Flight paths aren’t the deterrent they used to be – that’s changed massively.”

Timber wall is pretty on trend for the era.

Can’t beat a bar!

Ms Einarson said, although the airport has never tried to buy them out, the owners referred to the property as their ‘castle’.

The property – which has a $725,000 price guide – will be auctioned next Saturday at 9am.
