Rare chance to live on viral ‘TikTok Drive’ in small seaside town

Long before the crowds arrived, Aspect House had already been designed to turn away from the street and open itself to the sea. That privacy now shields it from the crowds of hundreds that regularly gather on what's been dubbed 'Australia's most beautiful street'.

Over the past year, Tasman Drive - a once-quiet stretch in the NSW south coast town of Gerringong - has become known locally as “TikTok Drive”, after viral videos brought national and international attention to its coastal outlook.

The elevated coastal road offers sweeping views of where the mountains meet the ocean, and visitors come from far and wide in search of the perfect shot.

Homes along this street rarely trade hands, so the listing of 37 Tasman Drive offers buyers a rare change to live on what social media has dubbed one of Australia’s prettiest streets.

But for the vendors, the beauty of Tasman Drive existed long before the internet found it. They bought the last vacant block on the street in 2018, after years of searching, and completed the home in 2022 as what one of the owners describes as their “forever dream home”.

Their circumstances have since changed, and they made the difficult decision to sell rather than let the home sit empty.

“It’s such a beautiful house that we just couldn’t let it sit and be idle when it should be appreciated,” one of the owners - who didn't want to disclose their name - told realestate.com.au.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home was designed by architect Clayton Orszaczky and built by Saltbox Building Co in an elevated headland position with uninterrupted views of the Pacific.

Yet some of its most defining features now feel almost prophetic.

Before Tasman Drive became an internet sensation, the owners had built a home that could remain private and inward-facing while the street outside became famous.

“Our architect came up with the idea of pivoting the top floor so it points on an angle towards the sea,” the owner said.

“The one thing that surprised us was the aspect - we kept discovering it even after we moved in. There is somehow a view from everywhere.”

Named Aspect House for the many perspectives it opens to the landscape, the home also has a side entrance rather than a traditional front door.

“We didn’t mean to design it that way, but we are quite private people,” the owner said.

In a way, the couple had accidentally planned for what was to come: a house that could open completely to the landscape without opening itself to the street.

That sense of retreat continues inside, where the owners wanted something darker and more cocooning than the bright white family home they had previously built in Sydney.

“I wanted a dark, moody, sexy kind of a house. I wanted to bunker in, especially in winter. It gets very windy, very cold, and we’ve got screens all upstairs, so you can feel like you’re protected.”

Now, that protected feeling extends beyond the weather.

The owners first noticed more visitors in the summer of 2024-25, before the phenomenon “really blew out” over the October long weekend.

“There were hundreds and hundreds of people."

Since then, the attention has become less tied to holiday peaks, with visitors arriving by car, train, private vans and coaches, many coming specifically to photograph the road.

One young tourist recently had travelled to Tasman Drive during a three-day visit to Sydney from China, they said.

“I asked her, ‘Is it worth it?’ She pointed to all the photos she’d taken and said, ‘Yes!’”

Despite the attention, the owners say the street’s fame has not been a negative experience for them personally, nor is it the reason they are selling.

“It doesn’t bother us because our house allows us not to be affected by it."

The main concern, they say, is pedestrian safety. One side of Tasman Drive opens onto the grassy headland, giving visitors a natural place to pause and take in the view, but it is still a public, two-way residential road.

“The only thing that worries us is pedestrian safety. That’s the only thing.”

Kiama Deputy Mayor Melissa Matters says the attention around Tasman Drive was a “feather in the cap” for Gerringong.

“We’ve always known that it’s a picturesque part of Australia and it seems like a lot of other people are now discovering just how beautiful the area is with the mountains meeting the sea,” Ms Matters said.

Council is monitoring the situation and will investigate whether changes to traffic management or parking are needed.

“It’s fantastic to see tourists coming to Gerringong to enjoy the scenery and we hope that they make a day of it by taking time to visit the wonderful cafes, shops and other attractions the town has to offer,” she said.

For the owners, that is still what endures beyond the attention: the timeless meeting of ocean, mountains and shifting light that drew them to the site in the first place.

Long before the trend, and beyond the photographs, Tasman Drive remains a place of extraordinary beauty. And Aspect House was designed to live quietly within it.

The property is selling via an expressions of interest campaign.
