It has been a much-loved family home for the past three-and-a-half years, and now an Adelaide radio identity and renowned MC is selling his Semaphore home.

Jarrod and Gabrielle Walsh bought their 34 Dudley St property at the end of 2022, attracted primarily by its location and potential for a contemporary renovation.

“We’d been looking around the Semaphore area for a while and in 2020 missed out on one just up the road on South Tce,” he says.

“Funnily enough, this one just randomly popped up.

“We were living in Peterhead beforehand and gave up hope and then we saw this and looked through it once and then – bizarre timing – literally the day I was flying out to Qatar to host the FIFA World Cup was the day of the auction.

“So we were successful at the auction and then I jumped on a plane and went to the World Cup.

“It had large rooms and was really close to the beach.

“The character is incredible and the stonework really stands out.

“It also had so much potential for us to do more.

“Plus at night, you can actually hear the waves of the ocean.

“The cafe culture on Semaphore Rd is incredible, and to be able to walk the kids up to the sand was also great.

“But where it shines is when you have things like the Christmas carols, and the Greek festival – they’re literally walking distance from our house, so you don’t have to worry about parking throughout summer.

“It’s pretty popular around that area, so to have a driveway which fits four cars off-street – that’s great.”

The home sits on a spacious 852sqm allotment and has four bedrooms, all at the front of the house flanking a grand entrance hall, with two of the bedrooms set either side of the family bathroom, which has a separate shower and bath.

A lounge sits further down the hall opposite a dining room/lounge, with an open-plan kitchen and meals area at the rear opening to both a bathroom and laundry, and out to a veranda.

A 2.5m x 3m cellar sits beneath the home, and outside you’ll find a pergola and a shed.

“I love sitting outside under the pergola,” Mr Walsh says.

“There’s a particular time every day where the sun starts setting and the sun will hit you and it’s just beautiful, whether that be in winter or summer – just the peace that brings is incredible.

“To be able to cook a barbecue and sit out next to the fire pit and watch the kids play has been great.

“You work so hard to get your family home and your dream home, so to be able to look back and go: ‘Yep, that was something that we achieved’, is amazing.”
