Race horse owners Gary and Lorilie Cunningham are selling up after moving into Horseshoe Hill at Maleny

Queensland racing royalty Gary and Lorilie Cunningham are making their next power play after their stunning new build was named the state’s best house.

The philanthropic couple behind Cunningham Thoroughbreds have left the Gold Coast for ‘Horseshoe Hill’, an architectural tribute to their equine lifestyle, crowned the Colorbond House of the Year at the 2025 Master Builders Queensland Housing and Construction Awards.

It’s a major off-track win for the race horse owners, whose call card includes 2024 Magic Millions winner, Storm Boy, and Magnetica.

Horseshoe Hill at Maleny, designed by Joe Adsett Architects and built by Jager Build, featured on Grand Designs Australia and was praised for its uniquely curved form rising from a steep rural site.

Standout features of the home, integrating concrete with recessed lighting, wood, and stone, include a double-height living area with a dramatic stone fireplace, an infinity pool, and stepped terraces meeting the landscape.

The Cunninghams have now listed their beachfront apartment for auction on December 5.

The three-storey apartment in the Ocean Isles building at 3511 Main Beach Pde is marketed by Donovan + Co agent Clint Donovan, and last traded for $5.75m in 2014.

Features include a private rooftop pool, show-stopping ocean views, and colourful interiors.

“This home has been our jewel by the sea, but the mountains have called,” Ms Cunningham said.

“We’re beyond excited for what comes next and thrilled for someone new to experience everything this apartment has offered our family.”
