A property rich in history with a 147-year legacy is being offered to the market for the first time since 1878.

The historic three-bedroom timber homestead in northern NSW town Tenterfield once served as the Boonoo Boonoo Post Office.

The home is located at the centre of a 227.95-acre estate known as “Coominya,” at 2153 Mount Lindesay Rd.

It carries a rich local heritage, rumoured to have been visited by notorious bushrangers during the gold rush era, including Dan Morgan, Ben Hall and the infamous “Captain Thunderbolt”.

“A lot of it comes from folktale and generations of stories through past and present family members,” said lead Agent Jack Thomas of Nutrien Harcourts Tenterfield.

“The reasoning for that was because it was the post office for Boonoo Boonoo at the time.

“Back in the period … you would assume that people would come and go from the local post office.

“Thunderbolt hide-out is a few minutes from the location.”

The property has been within the same family for 147 years.

“It really was for cattle production and they would grow bullocks out at the property,” Mr Thomas said. “They also had the additional income with the post office being there.”

The farmland is fenced into nine paddocks suitable for livestock and cropping

Located 22 km from the Tenterfield CBD, Mr Thomas described the property’s appeal as combining rural seclusion with everyday convenience.

The versatile farmland is divided into nine well-fenced paddocks suitable for livestock or cropping.

Water is supplied by seven stock dams, along with frontage to both Resurrection Creek and the Boonoo Boonoo River.

The property is well-equipped for rural operations, featuring stock yards and three farm sheds.

Modern enhancements, including solar panels and rainwater tanks, promote sustainability and self-sufficiency.

The fertile soil and ample water resources support agricultural pursuits, including cattle grazing, cropping or vineyards.

Although no guiding price was available the property will be selling via auction on December 12.

“The owners are very open to seeing where the auction campaign takes it to, given that it is a tightly held parcel,” Mr Thomas said. “But similar properties we are seeing, they are starting at the million range somewhere there and where they end up, who knows.”
