3/5 Oyama Ave, Manly is one of six apartments in the boutique block, which has a harbourside pool.
Olympian Ian Brown grew up on Middle Harbour, won an international competition designing and building a boat before he left school and went on to win a bronze medal in sailing at the 1976 Olympics.
So it makes perfect sense for the water lover that he chose an easycare home in Manly with its own boatshed and the opportunity to kayak and sail from his garden.
“I am passionate about water sports and value the quiet no traffic environment of this cul-de-sac,” he said.
Ian and his wife Raewyn bought the whole floor apartment in 2007 after raising their family in nearby Seaforth.
They’re now selling the four-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment with a double garage at 3/5 Oyama Ave, Manly via Helene Taylor of Clarke & Humel, Manly.

It made sense that the former Olympian chose to buy in the development, which has its own boatshed and the opportunity to kayak and sail from his garden.
The apartment, the largest in the block, has 470sqm on title.
Their apartment is the only one to have the large outdoor balconies and they both capture views from Manly wharf across North Harbour and have a wet bar and retractable awnings.
They had modernised and opened up the home before moving in and love the two vast outdoor entertaining areas, the northwest aspect and the lock-up and leave aspect.
There are six apartments in the block, with a swimming pool, play area and waterside lawn but the Browns have the largest residence – covering 470sqm on title.
They have a private sauna, their own wine cellar, private garaging for two cars, storage areas and of course the boatshed with slipway.
Clarke & Humel agent Helene Taylor says the property is bathed in north-westerly sunshine.
Dream views.
The solid full-brick and concrete block was built in 1980 and has been regularly maintained.
The pool was recently renovated and security and intercom has been upgraded.
As well as his prowess on the water Ian is particularly proud to have been selected as the sailing manager and architect for the 11 sailing disciplines for the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
“I had to come up with the ideas and design the program, we chose HMAS Penguin at Balmoral as our base and I’m pleased to say we had the most successful sailing Olympics,” he said.
Clarke & Humel agent Helene Taylor says the special property has the following attributes: “North-west sunshine, boating from your own boatshed, house-sized living, massive outdoor entertaining and peaceful Manly seclusion.”
