The NSW government is set to offload another nine “surplus” blocks of unused land hoping the sites will be transformed into new housing.
The Minns government announced the sale as part of its ongoing Building Homes for NSW program aimed at delivering 30,000 homes across the state.
Government revealed in a release announcing the sales that unlocking the nine “unutilised” sites would pave the way for the construction of more than 180 new homes across the state.

The program includes a land audit to identify vacant government assets that would be better used for new residential housing.

Minister for Lands and Property Steve Kamper said “all sites have been deemed surplus to requirement by the NSW Government”.
The newly identified sites include blocks in high-demand areas.
They include a greenfield site at Edmondson Park in Sydney southwest that government claims is suitable for 46 new homes.
Three vacant sites in Belrose on the northern beaches have been earmarked for up to 24 dwellings.
Regional NSW is also a focus, with a 7.1-hectare parcel in Muswellbrook identified as capable of supporting up to 68 new homes.

Sites in Woolgoolga and Inverell are slated for six and eleven houses respectively.
Other sites include a 6,235sqm lot in Blue Mountains suburb Mount Victoria that can accommodate 12 homes and a vacant corner lot on Derby St in Penrith, slated for seven houses.
In a bid to entice developers and speed up construction, the government has confirmed that the sites at Penrith and Edmondson Park are suited to the “housing pattern book”.
This mechanism offers pre-approved architect designs with a reduced 10-day planning approval pathway.
The hope is that this will make these smaller government sites more attractive to the private sector investors.

Mr Kamper said the government was “pulling every lever” to deliver more housing.
“The Minns Labor Government land audit continues to unlock new opportunities for housing delivery in areas of high growth and high demand,” he said.
The ongoing land audit has so far identified sites capable of delivering approximately 11,000 homes across the state, according to details provided by the Lands and Property ministry.

Sites are typically offered first to government developers Homes NSW and Landcom and, if not used by them, are then released to the private market as development sites.
