55 Avonhurst Drive, Glen Waverley is listed at $1.3m-$1.4m with a self-contained two-storey flat that agent Peter Serafino calls a potential “mortgage buster”.

A 1909 Renault AX Roadster is on the table for the buyer of a Glen Waverley home that features its own “mortgage buster” flat.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom property at 55 Avonhurst Drive, Glen Waverley has $1.3m-$1.4m price hopes with the vintage Renault potentially available to the successful bidder for the right price.

Alan and Margaret Lethborg lived in the home for more than 40 years, with Alan’s life’s work centred on restoring rare vehicles.

Their stepson, Graeme Charter, said Alan completed full ground-up restorations for clients and his own collection, with some cars going on to win acclaim at specialist heritage events like Motorclassica at the Royal Exhibition Building.

“He was deeply involved in the veteran and vintage car community,” Mr Charter said.

A dedicated study adds work-from-home flexibility inside the Glen Waverley family home.

The loft, a nod to long-time owner Alan Lethborg’s vintage car obsession and workshop life.

“It was about craftsmanship and preservation.”

Alan’s mechanical obsession extended beyond cars.

Mr Charter said he built a backyard track for miniature steam locomotives at a previous property, a feature that became a local curiosity.

“The neighbours’ children absolutely loved it,” he said.

Winters often took Alan to Lightning Ridge, where he took out mining claims in search of opal.

Mr Charter said the 1909 Renault reflected the depth of Alan’s work and was among the vehicles tied closely to the family’s history.

Buxton Mount Waverley agent Peter Serafino said the key commercial hook was a self-contained two-storey extension at the rear with its own kitchen, bathroom, electricity and gas connection.

“If someone wanted to sublease that section, perhaps to a university student, it absolutely lends itself to that,” Mr Serafino said.

He described it as a potential “mortgage buster” if used that way.

Mr Serafino said the Pinewood pocket location added further weight, with the home zoned for Brentwood Secondary College and Pinewood Primary School.

“It’s difficult to put a precise dollar figure on school zones, because they’re layered with emotion,” he said.

“Buyers attach enormous value to education access.”

Mr Serfaino said the dual driveways were another rarity at this price point and block size.

The main lounge room is one of the home’s key living zones, offering family space ahead of the Glen Waverley sale.

The kitchen sits at the heart of the Glen Waverley home, which also includes a self-contained two-storey flat at the rear.

“It’s very rare in this price bracket and block size,” he said.

“You don’t often get dual driveways unless the frontage is enormous.

“Here, it’s wide without being oversized.”

He said the separate access points and independent parking created flexibility for families now and long-term upside later.

The Glen Waverley home is scheduled to go to auction on Saturday February 28 at 12:30pm.
