Non-stop hammer time: 10 auctions in 10 hours for Harris agent Tom Hector

1 month ago 9

Calling an auction can be hard work.

Imagine calling 10 of them in one day – all in different locations.

Oh, and they’re all your own listings, you’re not auctioning another agent’s properties.

In what is believed to be a state first, that’s exactly what Harris Real Estate’s Tom Hector will do on Wednesday when he calls an auction on the hour every hour from 9am until 6pm.

Mr Hector said he liked the idea of a challenge and said he was hopeful the midweek auctions would attract serious buyers.

“I’m definitely keen on being an advocate of change in the industry in South Australia, because everyone’s governed by weekend inspections and auctions and, with a Wednesday auction – if they’re prepared to take the day off work that means they’re serious,” he said.

“Also, every single one of those properties has got an advertised price, so there are no “contact agents” – buyers know what the price guide is so they know roughly what the property’s going to sell for, depending on the market conditions on the day.”

Mr Hector kicks off the morning with a 9am auction in Norton Summit, before heading to Norwood, Kensington, Highgate, back to Norwood, then on to Tranmere and finishing with four auctions in Rostrevor.

With the most auctions he’s called in one day being six, it represents a significant step up for the experienced auctioneer, and Mr Hector said he looks forward to bringing his A game.

“I’ll be doing a big gym session in the morning to get the body moving, I’ll eat a healthy breakfast, have lots of water in the car, pack a healthy lunch and keep it very simple,” he said.

“I’m not worried about my voice not holding up because I drink lots of water and stay healthy, it’s more just the mental side of making sure I’m energised and provide my owners with excitement as an auctioneer.”

Mr Hector said he was confident he would run 10 good auctions, and there was a chance he could get all 10 properties away, although he didn’t want to jinx it.

“I’ll trust the process as I always do and the outcome will follow,” he said.
