Stripped-back homes have become a rare entry point for buyers desperate to get their foot in the door – with this three-bedroom shell drawing more than 45 groups and multiple offers at Saturday’s open inspection.

The house at 62 Halsmere Street, Geebung in Brisbane’s north might lack everything you’d normally show a buyer, but what it does have in spades is opportunity, according to listing agent Tristan Rowland of Bright Estate Agents.
With builders becoming harder to secure, stripped-back homes offer a rare shortcut into the renovation market – especially for hands-on tradies locked out by soaring prices.
The worst of the work – involving tens of thousands of dollars to strip out and remove asbestos, clear the interiors and make it ready for renovation – was already complete, he said.
“I had 45 groups through it on Saturday,” Mr Rowland said. “Six carpenters turned up, that’s unheard of right now. It’s so hard to find a chippie, and yet here they were.”
“Some people were saying oh my god as they walked in but the tradies were coming in and saying yes, all the hot demo work is done. They’re looking to finally get into the market (themselves).”

One builder was overheard explaining the home’s post-war craftsmanship to mum-and-dad purchasers as they inspected together.
“It really is an amazing era of home building,” Mr Rowland said. “These post-war homes have amazing bones. You just don’t realise how well built they are until you see one like this.”
The home sits on a flat 610 sqm block with double street frontages, with a north-facing backyard and parkland just metres away – all factors ticking boxes for families looking to get into the area.
It is also within walking distance of one of the biggest shopping centres in Brisbane, Westfield Chermside – seeing it draw strong interest even from interstate buyers, especially those looking to relocate out of Melbourne.
