7 Talbot St, Newtown, is on the market for $2.5m.

Vendors who purchased an unfinished Charles Maccora-designed renovation project have listed the luxury home after completing the job.

The Federation-era residence at 7 Talbot St, Newtown, sold for $2m last July, when it was described as 95 per cent completed.

At the time it had only a shell of a main bathroom, with plumbing but no floor, and a decaying veranda that needed to be propped up.

Abandoned Geelong West house sparks bidding war

Builder designer Charles Maccora designed the modern rear extension.

All the landscaping has been taken care of.

With those jobs and more ticked off, the three-bedroom house is now back on the market with $2.5m price hopes through McGrath, Geelong agent David Cortous.

Mr Cortous said the sellers had spent several hundred thousand dollars completing the premium renovation.

“The finished product is amazing. I think it’s one of the nicer properties I have seen on the market for quite some time,” he said.

“They didn’t build it to flip, they built it to live in but they are moving to Byron Bay.”

While most of the contemporary open-plan rear extension had been completed when the house last sold, the original front facade was still in need of a major restoration.

The traditional front veranda has been now rebuilt and the gardens landscaped at the 620sq m corner property.

A concrete bath is the centrepiece of the main bathroom.

A butler’s pantry helps keep the kitchen clutter free.

The north-facing living areas are bathed in natural light.

Large antique style mirrors are a nod to the home’s heritage in both the main and ensuite bathrooms, which feature timber vanities and concrete basins.

“The bathrooms that they have put into it are stunning, the main bathroom has a stone bath and chandeliers,” Mr Cortous said.

“It has really got a really nice blend of period and modern features so it has still got those high ceilings, cornices and an ornate fireplace.”

Polished concrete floors and an old Geelong red brick feature wall are standout feature of the sleek main living zone that links to a covered patio and plunge pool.

But for car enthusiasts, perhaps the biggest highlight is the five-car garage with height for two car stackers.
