24A Stephen St, Newtown, is on the market for $2.75m to $2.95m.

Winner of a 2025 City of Greater Geelong Heritage Award, this architecturally-designed Newtown home honours the property’s history while seamlessly blending high-end contemporary living.

The three-bedroom property at 24A Stephen St was brought to life by the vendor, who grew up next door to the original property, a coach house built in 1891.

“The coach house was a cool structure that I believed had enormous potential given its history and great location,” he said.

“The whole project started with the idea of retaining the former coach house of “Brooklyn House”.

“It was too good to lose for the street, given its heritage in the area.”

Behind the exceptional attention to detail evident in the five years of planning, design, and construction lay a labour of love from the vendor, who worked closely with building designer Charles Maccora and heritage architect David Rowe to bring his dream to life.

American oak flooring, a gas log fire and built-in timber features are showcased on the ground floor.

The kitchen contains a large natural-stone island, elegant high-end brass tapware, a Siemens induction cooktop, dishwasher and double wall oven and an integrated three-door fridge.

“We wanted to create something architecturally really interesting, and that would work with the neighbourhood character,” he said.

Many elements of the original coach house remain, while modern features are used for functionality.

The coach house, now the garage, features exposed, steeply braced timber trusses, polished concrete floors, original brick walls, and a glass wall overlooking an upper-terrace plunge pool.

The spacious main bedroom suite contains a walk-in wardrobe with clever pull-down racks and a fully-tiled ensuite.

The fully tiled bathrooms feature rainwater showers.

The home that adjoins the original coach house comprises two levels, with American oak flooring on the ground level, built-in timber features and a light well that offers glimpses of the upper level.

The north-facing position, large double-glazed windows, and the light well help generate natural light throughout the home.

An open-plan kitchen, living, and dining zone offer a high-end, spacious area to unwind, and large picture windows overlook the pool.

Outside also features a seating area with a vertical garden of ferns, grasses and herbs, and an outdoor shower.

The paved courtyard surrounding the pool sits between the coach house and main living zone.

The upstairs retreat and study nook joins two bedrooms and the main bathroom on the first floor. A void looks down to the living area.

“The stunning limestone-paved landscaping is one of the best features of the home,” adds the vendor, along with the location.

“It’s arguably positioned on one of Geelong’s best streets,” he says.

Only a short walk from Pakington St, the home offers easy access to the waterfront and the CBD.

Its location and features make it best suited to a professional couple or a downsizer, says the vendor.

Striking landscaping completes the vision.

The coach house has been converted to a tandem garage with exposed, steeply braced timber trusses, polished concrete floors.

“It appeals to those who appreciate premium everything. It’s absolutely maintenance-free, has premium security,” he explains.

“It is extremely private and is a Smart Home, meaning it can be operated from anywhere in the world.”

The three-bedroom house at 24A Stephen St, Newtown, is listed for sale with a price guide from $2.75m to $2.95m.

Jellis Craig Geelong director Marcus Falconer is the listing agent.
