The Bert Newton Retirement Village, located in the sought-after suburb of Highett, is a luxurious development by Ryman Healthcare.

This village provides residents with an array of independent living and aged-care options within the same community, ensuring that residents can choose how they want to live with a range of apartment options and amenities tailored to their needs.

Tailored retirement experience

From assisted living services and specialist care to fully independent apartments and resort-style amenities, the Ryman model empowers residents to design their own retirement experience and ensures no one is left behind.

When it comes to levels of care, life at Bert Newton Village can be tailored to what residents prefer.

Living at Bert Newton Village

For Heather Duggan, who moved into the village in February, the choice was straightforward.

After her husband passed away, managing a house and garden became difficult, prompting her to consider different living arrangements.

Proactive decision

Heather wanted to make a proactive decision while she was still well and active. At her granddaughter's suggestion, she visited the Bert Newton Village, which was nearby.

"I did, and I loved it," Heather says. "From the moment I moved in, I knew it was right. The welcome from the staff is incredible – the support is always there, so you never feel alone."

Community size and options

Heather appreciated the community's size and range of options, which provided peace of mind during a transition period.

"I liked that it wasn't too big, with about 80 independent apartments. Some charming places can be quite large, making it harder to get to know people," she says.

"The combination of health support, if needed, and the recreational side of things was a nice balance that appealed to me."

The balance of health and lifestyle is aligned for residents.

Amenities and services

Offering a luxurious suite of facilities on-site, Bert Newton Village is a self-contained hub for recreation, relaxation, and connection. Amenities include:

  • Café, bar, shop, and hair and beauty salon
  • Workshop, craft room, billiard room, and library
  • Pool, spa, and gym for daily exercise

Specialized care and security

For aged care residents, the village offers lounge and dining areas, tranquil outdoor spaces, and specialist dementia care with high-need services and support.

Empowering residents

"A lot of people say that when they move into retirement living, they feel like they're handing the keys over to someone else," says Ms. Lindrea-Jones. "We want to empower people to live their best lives at any stage, in whichever way suits them. We have the most beautiful amenities – it's like living in a hotel."

Residents say that it's like living in a hotel at Bert Newton Village.

Stylish range of residences

The “ultra-modern” apartments are designed to be both stylish and low-maintenance, with a choice of one- or two-bedroom floor plans.

Pricing depends on whether the residence is independent or assisted living, with apartments starting from $650,00.

Comfort and transparency

The spacious, light-filled apartments include balcony or patio options and come with air-conditioning and heating for year-round comfort.

Straightforward financial structure

"It’s very straightforward: a standard deferred management fee capped at 30% or 25% and fixed weekly rates. When you leave, you just leave that 30% or 25% with us,” explains Ms. Lindrea-Jones.

“But there are bespoke offers available if something else suits. We avoid adding complexity unless it’s needed."

No-pressure sales approach

Heather Duggan appreciated the no-pressure approach from the sales team. "When I chose off the plan, they held it for me until I sold my home. There was no pressure at all."

Residents are encouraged to live their best lives with Ryman.
