The villa at 15 Watts Pde, Mount Eliza, features a handpainted ceiling and indoor fountain.
A grand Mornington Peninsula villa is bringing Mediterranean-style magnificence to the market with a $5.75m price tag.
Building the Mt Eliza house was a four-year journey for owners Jenny and Peter Walsh, a timeline and scale similar to many homes featured on the popular television show Grand Designs.
The villa’s distinctive look, inspired by thee couple’s international travels, includes a handpainted ceiling which took the artist months to complete, an indoor fountain, pool pavilion and European-esque garden adorned by vine-draped pergolas and statues.

The sandstone used in the residence’s construction was sourced from Sydney’s Gosford Quarries.
Carpets from Tibet, an Italian terracotta roof and American designer pendants and sconces throughout add to the house’s international flair.
The wife and husband even flew to the US with their designer to select furniture, some of which will be included in the abode’s sale.
Less than two decades ago, they purchased a 2427sq m block at 15 Watts Pde and built the villa while aged in their fifties.
They are now planning to downsize from the home which has water, Melbourne skyline and Macedon Ranges views, a wine cellar and lift.
Sydney’s Gosford Quarries supplied the sandstone from which the villa was built. The house even featured in a book celebrating the company’s 100-year anniversary.

There’s a suite of integrated Gaggenau cooktops including gas, induction, steamer and deep fryer, in the kitchen.
Ms Walsh said the reason behind the home’s four-year construction was the lengthy time periods it took to cut up the large sandstone blocks delivered from Sydney.
But the end result has been more than worth it.
“I just love the sandstone, when the sun hits it can change colours at different times,” she said.
The villa is set behind high walls with automated iron gates and a travertine portico with a crazy-paved entry.
Visitors are greeted by the entry foyer’s ornate fountain and a sweeping staircase with wrought iron balustrades.
A ceiling mural showcasing a painted blue sky, clouds, palm trees and flowers decorates the double-height void abode.
The ceiling mural and indoor fountain have a distinctive European feel.
The gardens also contain fountains and statues.
Heading into the kitchen, there’s Gaggenau cooktops, a Liebherr fridge, De Dietrich oven, integrated microwave and two Fisher & Paykel drawer dishwashers.
“We had a large copper canopy made especially as a feature in the kitchen,” Ms Walsh said.
A wooden open fireplace, gas flame heater and walk-in wardrobe feature in the Parisian-inspired main bedroom.
The Walshes enjoy hosting close family and friends in the cinema room and another room equipped with a wet bar.
An outdoor fireplace, built-in barbecue and pool pavilion with a spa, sauna and kitchenette continues the entertainers’ set-up.
Another mural beside the pool showcases a Mediterranean-like outdoor scene.
For guests, a self-contained, one-bedroom apartment has its own driveway and garage access.
The indoor tiled swimming pool and spa is accompanied by a sauna and kitchenette.
Many of the rooms have different colour schemes including yellow, green and blue.
Marshall White’s Chelsey Gibson said the villa had been built to an incredibly high standard.
“Walking through it is just the most incredible build, the craftsmanship and the quality of it is amazing,” Ms Gibson said.
“I really love all the copper they’re used in the guttering, the down pipes and so forth, plus the timber panelling throughout the house.”
She’s had a Sydney-based buyer inquire about the villa while most other buyers have come from the Peninsula and Melbourne.
