Homeowners Leigh and Celeste Stynder were over the moon when their Mordialloc unit sold for $975,000 at a weekend auction.
The couple said the result, an impressive $95,000 above their $880,000 reserve, was all the more exciting because this week was Melbourne’s busiest for auctions since March 2024.
Ms and Mr Stynder are planning on moving to a larger residence with their three children Isabella, 8, Leo, 4, and Kai, 18 months.

Ray White’s Kevin Chokshi described the auction for the family’s three-bedroom unit at as “bonkers”.
Four bidders registered for the event and three actively participated.
It started with a $800,000 bid, at the bottom of the $800,000-$880,000 listed range.
“I think by four bids in that we were past reserve and it was announced on the market,” Mr Chokshi said.
The unit is within walking distance of both Mordialloc and Parkdale train stations, Parkdale Plaza, Mordialloc’s Main St and the beach.

A new bidder entered the action at the $920,000 mark and a young family and a young couple ended up competing to secure the unit.
“A young family with two kids, living with one of their mums in Mordialloc, bought it,” Mr Chokshi said.
The agent said he had seen an uptick in buyer demand with homes priced at $1m and less attracting “a lot of heat”.
“Buyers are anticipating that prices will rise in 2026, so if they can lock in a house at 2025 prices, that’s great,” he said.

Ms and Mr Stynder celebrated their auction result with “morning cocktails” while relatives looked after their little ones, before they gathered with wider family later in the day.
Their treasured memories of the home include the fact that Kai was born during the time they have lived at the home.
“So that’s probably our most special moment, that we met had out last baby,” Ms Stynder said.

The unit sits on a 308sq m block.
And Ms Stynder said when it came to the auction, they were “thrilled with the outcome and relieved as well”.
They did not plan for their auction to be held on such a busy weekend, with the date falling by chance.
Although they were worried the large number of auctions might result in less bidders, there were only a handful of Mordialloc homes which ended up going under the hammer on Saturday.

“At the end, it worked out and we are over the moon,” Mr Stynder said.
They gave a shout-out to Mr Chokshi and his team for their efforts including pre-auction tips such as painting a few parts of the home and styling it well, rather than going all out with a massive renovation, which helped them get “bang for buck”.
