The 30ha property at 10 Blackrock Rd, Connewarre, is on the market.

Champion thoroughbred trainer Danny O’Brien is punting that a 30ha coastal estate near his Barwon Heads training facilities will be a favourite with lifestyle buyers.

The landmark rural estate holds a three-bedroom house in a resort-style setting complete with vine clad verandas and a contemporary pool house that offers a separate retreat with open-plan living and a kitchenette, bedroom and bathroom and an indoor heated pool, cedar sauna and outdoor fire pit terrace.

O’Brien and wife Nina bought the Blackrock Rd property in 2022.

Bellarine Property, Barwon Heads agent Peta Walter said the family has used it as a country escape close to their horse training facilities and property.

The contemporary pool house contrasts the weatherboard homestead at 10 Blackrock Rd, Connewarre.

Retired 2019 Melbourne Cup winner Vow and Declare has also been living at the property, which offers extensive stables and equestrian facilities.

“It’s been handy having something the family can all enjoy, that’s still close to his horse training facilities that he’s got in Connewarre,” Ms Walter said.

“But then the house is obviously set up, you’ve got an indoor pool and a sauna and all the mod cons and things that you would enjoy at a country estate.

Picture windows frame rural views.

The country kitchen offers a place to gather.

“You still have that beautiful, idyllic country setting as well.”

Ms Walter said more people were discovering Connewarre’s best attributes.

“It’s that country setting on the fringe of Barwon Heads and 13th Beach or Breamlea beach, but you’ve got all that infrastructure that’s coming on at Warralily for all your shopping and schools and amenities,” she said.

The pool house offers dedicated outdoor spaces.

The indoor pool is part of a self-contained retreat that includes a sauna, bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette.

Ms Walter said Geelong’s expanding suburbs meant it was becoming easier for people who could only imagine an escape to the country to turn it to a permanent reality.

Set behind a tree-lined driveway, the weatherboard homestead offers private living amid sweeping lawns and gardens and showcases Baltic pine floors, picture windows, hydronic heating and a woodfire.

Living spaces and a country kitchen frame the rural outlook.

The pool house is a striking contrast built in a contemporary style with polished concrete floors provides a self-contained retreat ideal for guests, extended family or short stays.

The property has equestrian facilities, including a dressage arena.

And multiple fenced paddocks for horses.

The property has equestrian facilities, including a full-size dressage arena, stables, tack facilities and multiple fenced paddocks, but the new owners don’t necessarily need to come with horses, Ms Walter said.

“The way it’s set up it could be somebody who is after that lifestyle with horses. Or, what you also see is people use the house and facilities and enjoy the sense of space, and they can agist the land.

“The way the property is set up, there is good ease of access to the paddocks that’s separate from the house.”
