The North Adelaide home of Liberal senator Dennis Hood and his wife Lisa has sold.

Liberal senator Dennis Hood has sold the “unique” North Adelaide property his family has called home for the past 12 years.

The four-bedroom house with a feature cylindrical turret at 80 Buxton St was snapped up in a $3.15m deal, according to property records.

The couple have updated the home over the years.

Mr Hood, a former Family First Party federal director, bought the house with his wife Lisa in 2014.

“We lived in Prospect and my wife and I used to go for a walk every morning and we’d always end up walking in the same street in North Adelaide and every day she’d say, ‘I really like that house’, and one day I got a bit sick of saying it and said, ‘look, if it ever comes up we’ll buy it’,” he said in February.

“And literally a few days later it came on the market and I had to.

“I love the turret, the fact that it’s quite unique and I think the street’s beautiful – the location’s pretty much unbeatable.”

The couple have updated the home over the years as Mr Hood said it was run down when they bought it.

The home has four bedrooms and four bathrooms.

It’s on a sprawling 720sqm block.

A cylindrical turret is a standout feature of the home.

“We’ve spent a lot of money on it – we’ve added the ensuite, the outdoor room, the double garage and renovated right through – kitchen, bathroom, all of it,” he said.

“It’s a dramatic change from what it was – in fact, we had the previous owner come through a few years back and they couldn’t believe it.”

The property was a sanctuary for Mr Hood and his peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of politics – although there would sometimes be some crossover.

Mr Hood, who celebrates 20 years in parliament this month, has decided not to seek re-election after her serves the final four years of his term.

Selling agent Andrew Fox, of Fox Real Estate, was contacted for comment but he declined.
