Landport is the type of historic home that commands attention.
There is something magical about this 1800s property and its wonderful street presence, says Abercrombys Tasmania estate agent Georgie Rayner.
“As people drive past you see them slow down, and turn their heads,” she said.
“It has such magnificent presence — the width of the property, the symmetry, the hedges and the Pierre de Ronsard roses, the historic architecture and the charm of details like the iron lacework and the original doorbell, which still works.”

Mrs Rayner said inquiries in the first week of the campaign were led by locals.
Not just Tasmanian, not just Hobart, but New Town locals, she said.
“We even had people who live in the street come to inspect the property — it’s a landmark home,” she said.
“For many families, Landport is their dream home.
“One group said they were considering a renovation project, but saw Landport had hit the market and are now reconsidering.”

This beautifully proportioned residence began life at the heart of a flourishing orchard, a quiet reminder of a time when Hobart was steadily extending north along the River Derwent.
Today, it remains a gracious and enduring presence, with wide verandas, elegant bay windows, and established gardens where traditional box hedges trace gentle paths through the landscape.
It is a home of rare character, reflecting a considered blend of late Georgian and Victorian design.
The original front door, framed by leadlight windows, offers a warm and immediate sense of arrival.
The nameplate, Landport, speaks softly to the home’s history.
Inside, a broad entrance hall sets the tone, with two generously scaled bedrooms positioned on either side.
Beyond a traditional archway, the home opens into its living quarters, where spaces unfold with purpose and ease.
Upstairs, three dormer bedrooms enjoy elevated outlooks across Cornelian Bay and the Domain, capturing natural light and a wonderful sense of openness.

On the ground level, the home is anchored by its everyday living spaces.
A spacious and beautifully appointed bathroom sits adjacent to the main bedroom, while a separate dining room and inviting sitting room provide places to gather or retreat.
The open-plan kitchen and adjoining meals area are contemporary in design, filled with natural light throughout the day and offering a relaxed setting for family life.
Mrs Rayner said the home has a renovated bathroom, located off the central hallway.
“It is a generous size, tiled, with a stand-alone feature bathtub and a walk-in shower,” she said.
“The gorgeous blue leadlight window hints at the past while complementing this updated, modern space.”

Towards the rear, the home continues to deliver practicality and flexibility, with a second bathroom, mud room, laundry, and ample storage.
Every element has been carefully considered for modern comfort, while remaining sympathetic to the home’s original character.
Set on expansive grounds, the property has a covered carport for one vehicle, while the driveway comfortably accommodates additional cars.
An adjoining shed is currently used as a workshop or studio.
Further along, the original stables remain, now providing generous storage while hinting at their past life as a sheltered recreational space.

Beyond, an expansive lawn stretches out, reinforcing a rare sense of space and privacy so close to the city.
While walking around the home at an inspection, it is noticeable how quiet and peaceful it is.
Mrs Rayner said this was attractive to buyers who also seek the convenience of being able to be in the city, nearby shops, the Tasmanian Hockey Centre or Friends School within minutes.
Landport is positioned near a walking and cycling track that follows the path of the old railway line, inviting quiet morning strolls or leisurely rides.
No.39 Bishop St, New Town is listed with Abercrombys Tasmania at $2.25m.
