A rainforest retreat that is all sleek lines and minimalist vibes on the outside has a colourful surprise on the inside.
‘The Glasshouse’ at 26 Island Point Rd, Port Douglas, has rainforest and sea views, and recently underwent a two-year top-to-bottom renovation in collaboration with design house ‘Sergio Villa Mobilitaly’.
The interiors are now an opulent blend of luxury Italian craftsmanship, tropical minimalism and connection to nature, featuring dramatic pops of colour courtesy of Murano glass and bespoke furnishing.
Sales agent Mark Flinn of Ray White Port Douglas said the vision for the home centred on creating a calm, sculptural sanctuary that felt part of the landscape, with a white base and handcrafted, organic elements.
“This still allows the next owner to put their own stamp on the home by simply changing furnishings in the future,” he said.

Mr Flinn said design cues came from a combination of luxury eco-retreats and Italy’s grand hotels of Positano and Capri, with a focus on refined simplicity and connection to place.
“The aim was to create a calm, luxurious escape without any flashiness or overdesign,” he said.
“The result is an atmosphere that’s timeless, relaxing and effortless.
“There’s a sense of refined simplicity, everything has a purpose and a place, but there’s still room to breathe.”
Set across three levels, the home has an open plan living, dining and kitchen space opening to a full length balcony on the top floor.
There is a second living area on the middle level along with a master suite with walk-in robe and luxury ensuite.
There is also a second room with ensuite, which could be used as a home office.
The bottom level has a third bedroom with ensuite, a media room, and the stunning swimming pool.

Handmade Murano glass ceilings and light fittings feature in the kitchen, staircase and dining areas.
There is a white leather suede lounge by Longhi Fratelli Italy, hand woven rugs by Jenny Morrison and imported outdoor furniture.
Mr Flinn said every piece of furnishing was handmade and handpainted specifically for the space.
“The pieces are artworks in themselves, but they were created with the environment in mind,” he said.
“The Murano glass lights are a perfect example, handmade, sculptural, but soft and ethereal.”

Outside, the pool deck is surrounded by treetops with views of the ocean, Four Mile Beach and the marina, while the outdoor kitchen includes commercial refrigeration and ice makers.
“It’s quiet, peaceful and there’s often a breeze that moves through the home,” Mr Flinn said.
“You can feel completely immersed in the rainforest.”
The garden features more than 1500 tropical plants, including orchids, mango trees and other fruit trees.
“It’s a garden you can wander through and get lost in, with something new blooming all the time,” Mr Flinn said.
“You could feel completely immersed in nature, surrounded by your own rainforest with no neighbours in sight, but still be just five minutes’ walk from the beach, the shops and some of the best restaurants in town.
“The fact that you can do all of that without ever needing to get in a car is rare.
“That balance, between seclusion and connection, is what makes this place so special.”
‘The Glasshouse’ is for sale for offers over $5.3m.
