Australian Open season is upon us and as tennis fever grips the nation, eyes will be on Aussie hopefuls like Alex de Minaur and Maya Joint to make deep runs into the tournament.
There is more money now than ever in tennis, with this year’s Australian Open boasting a $111.5m prize pool – the largest in the tournament’s history – with the men’s and women’s singles winners set to receive $4.15m.
Even the amateurs are getting in on the money, with Aussie Jordan Smith recently taking home $1m through the Aussie Open’s single point tournament.

Off the court, tennis aces have splashed these massive winnings, along with sponsorship riches, on some lavish homes around the world.
The real estate portfolios of some of Australia’s past and present tennis icons spans cosy London cottages, tax-free Caribbean retreats and beachside Queensland mansions.

ALEX DE MINAUR

Australia’s number one ranked men’s player, Alex de Minaur is the country’s best chance at a homegrown Aussie Open success story.
His best finish came in last year’s tournament when he was knocked out in the quarterfinals by eventual winner Jannik Sinner.
De Minaur’s fiancee Katie Boulter was sent into the tournament’s main draw this year instead of having to qualify, following a series of withdrawals.

It is understood that the tennis power couple have been living in London for the past two years, with The Sun reporting de Minaur purchased a £1.9m ($3.97m) cottage in 2023.
The couple announced their engagement in December 2024.
Prior to his London move, Fox Sports reported in 2020 de Minaur resided in New Providence, the most populous island in The Bahamas.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) lists The Bahamas as one of 26 Offshore Financial Centres, also known as tax havens.
And, de Minaur is not the only Aussie tennis star who has lived tax-free in the Caribbean paradise.

NICK KYRGIOS

It was also reported in 2020 that Nick Kyrgios lived in Nassau, the capital city of The Bahamas.
Kyrgios posted on Instagram from the Bahamas as recently as July 2025, and a post from July 2022 captured him on the beach with the caption: “Home.”

When he isn’t breaking racquets on the court, Kyrgios has been breaking profits in the Aussie property market.
He sold his penthouse apartment in Sydney in June this year for $1.925m.
‘King Kyrgios’ had purchased the three-bedroom unit in Kensington for $1.6m in early 2022.
He renovated the kitchen, installed new flooring and gave the property a repaint before turning it over for a cool $325,000 profit.

The Canberran’s highest Aussie Open finish came back in 2015, when he was knocked out in the quarterfinals by Andy Murray.
Kyrgios turned down a wildcard spot in this year’s tournament after announcing he was not physically ready for the demands of grand slam tennis.

ASH BARTY

Ash Barty shocked the tennis world with her retirement back in 2022 at the age of 25, while she was ranked world number one.
The three-time Grand Slam winner – who earned more than $30m during her tennis career – splashed her cash last year on a luxe beachfront apartment on the Gold Coast.

Developers Graya confirmed via Instagram that construction completed on the project in late December 2025, with “residents settled in and enjoying their new homes over the Christmas holidays”.
It is understood the 2022 Australian Open winner will use the property as a lock-up-and-leave holiday home.
The four-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment boasts ocean views, European oak floorboards, integrated Miele appliances and a private balcony.
The Queenslander recently congratulated teenage star Maya Joint on becoming the first home women’s seed at the Australian Open since Barty in 2022.

LLEYTON HEWITT

Former world number one Lleyton Hewitt never got his hands on the Australian Open trophy, coming closest when he reached the final in 2005.
His property history was as storied as his career on the court, with he and wife Bec making a habit out of buying and selling luxury homes.
The couple sold their Toorak mansion in December 2021, less than a month after listing it.
The Melbourne home, which they had purchased for $12.7m, sold for $15.2m.

Also in 2021, they splashed $4.305m on The Palms — a Gold Coast manor which attracted interest from around the world.

Hewitt also previously owned a mansion in his hometown of Adelaide, which he sold in 2014 for $2.18m.

It was reported in late 2023 that the Hewitts had purchased a resort-style estate in Glenhaven for $10.3m, where it is believed that they still reside.

PAT RAFTER

While never picking up an Australian Open, Par Rafter was a back-to-back US Open winner during the 1990s.
Since then, Rafter has turned his career winnings into a property empire.
His most recent property sale was a Gold Coast apartment in 2024, which he sold for more than half a million dollars.
The former Sunshine Beach home of Pat Rafter sold for $15.2m.
The Sunshine Beach home was sold in January 2018 to Betty’s Burgers and Concrete Co owner David Hayes.
His biggest win came in 2018, when he and wife Lara Feltham sold their designer home in Sunshine Beach for $15.2m.
Rafter initially set the asking price for the home at $18m, but settled for several million less after the home spent almost two years on the market.

BERNARD TOMIC

Former world number 17 Bernard Tomic will not be a part of this year’s tournament, being bested in straight sets by 185-ranked Arthur Fery during qualifying.
Tomic’s property journey has been as turbulent as his tennis career.

He sold his two villas on the Gold Coast for an undisclosed fee in 2018, after a lengthy campaign.
The Tomic family first tried to sell the Southport property in June 2012 when it was priced at $750,000 per villa.

Tomic also purchased a luxury Sunshine Coast home in 2015 for $3.5m with his then-girlfriend and Love Island Australia star Vanessa Sierra.
He has never reached further than the fourth round of the Australian Open.

JOHN NEWCOMBE

A star of the 1960s and 70s, John Newcombe is one of Australia’s most successful tennis exports.
He was an Australian Open singles winner in 1973 and 1975, while also picking up five doubles tournament wins between 1965 and 1976.

Each year Tennis Australia awards the Newcombe Medal to Australia’s most outstanding tennis player.
Newcombe sold his sprawling 7322 sqm estate in Sydney’s Pymble in 2008, making a stunning profit in the process.
