The former Paradise Waters home of Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate has made way for a showstopping architectural icon that could challenge the prestigious enclave’s price record.

Currently for sale by expression of interest, the newly completed waterfront stunner enjoys a premium peninsula position, panoramic views, and a bold contemporary design.
Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate's former home was demolished
Owner Mariana Kennedy bought the property from Cr Tate and his wife Ruth in 2016 and initially had plans to transform the home with a Hamptons-inspired renovation.
“But during Covid we decided to knock it down and build a whole new home,” Ms Kennedy said.

“The block was too good. The position was too good. So we decided to create something special.”
The statement pool area
Working closely with renowned architect Jared Poole, Ms Kennedy landed on a bold design featuring a striking façade of black glass and timber.
“It stands out from the street. It’s beautiful and unique,” Ms Kennedy said.
“Then, when you walk in the gate, you can see through to the water feature, the pool and the river, and everyone goes ‘wow’.”
And the water feature
Spanning three levels, the home has a curved design and boasts five bedrooms, multiple living spaces, indoor and outdoor entertaining zones, a chef’s kitchen with butler’s pantry, and a resort style swimming pool as well as a five-car basement garage and rare private boat ramp.
Due to its peninsula position, the rear of the house overlooks the water on three sides, has views to TSS and the city skyline, and opens up to bring the outdoors in.
A cosy living space
“You are literally living that indoor outdoor lifestyle,” Ms Kennedy said.
“Even in storms you can sit outside, and it’s designed so you can be having a drink in the bar at the cabana and jump straight into the pool.”
Adjacent to the pool area is a large flat grassed space overlooking the water, while an additional covered outdoor dining zone with barbecue is just outside the kitchen.
“It’s insane for entertaining,” Ms Kennedy said.
“You can have people playing bocce on the lawn, while others are sitting at the dining table, and some people are in the kitchen or the pool.
“It’s just magnificent.”
Inside, no expense has been spared on the property’s striking fitout, which includes custom cabinetry, and handpicked marble benchtops from Italy.
“The interiors have a real warmth and depth to them,” Ms Kennedy said.
“There are a lot of beautiful features but it’s still subtle.”
No expense was spared in the kitchen
While the design is stunning, the home is also designed to be practical, with functional features including a kitchenette in the upstairs retreat, fireplaces in each of the living spaces, a lift, smart home integration, and keyless entry.

“The moment you walk in you know you’re home,” Ms Kennedy said.
“Every area is functional and every convenience has been thought of.
“It’s a big home but there is no area that does not get used and it’s all about comfort.”

Indoor/outdoor living is a breeze
It’s also about maximising every centimetre of that waterfront position.
“Every area has a view, even the toilets and bathrooms, and at night it’s a whole new ballgame,” Ms Kennedy said.
“The house has the most beautiful LED lighting and you have water on one side and the lights of Surfers on the other which reflect on the water.
“So, it looks like the house is floating on water with the city floating around you.”
The open plan main living area
Described as ‘the pinnacle of luxury,’ the property is jointly listed with Gregory Bell and Stirling McInnes of Ray White Bell Group, and Harry Kavakas of Kollosche.
