Newly inducted tennis hall of famer Lleyton Hewitt has paid tribute to his wife Bec for holding their young family unit together as they ‘travelled the world’ in a life of musical houses.

“Bec’s travelled the world with us and it’s a grind, and especially with three young kids, we’ve had to move base and set up overseas. And she’s done everything with grace and elegance,” Hewitt told those gathered for the Sport Australia Hall of Fame Induction and Awards.

“You’ve been the rock the whole time supporting me, and I certainly wouldn’t have been able to continue my career and be able to play 20 Australian Opens without you. So I’m eternally grateful and I love you so much. Thank you.”

He’s not kidding about having multiple homes along the way either. The family has been based across three states in Australia since the pandemic alone – the Gold Coast in Queensland, Melbourne in Victoria and Sydney’s eastern suburbs in New South Wales – let alone the homes they’ve lived in across the world including Nassau in the Bahamas.

Their most recent real estate deal was the sale of a luxury beach house that they’d bought to be closer to their son Cruz’s training program at KDV Tennis Academy on the Gold Coast in Queensland.

They gave a $200,000 discount on their asking price for the property to sell for $4.9m but still gained close to $600,000 given they’d paid $4.305m for it.

Coastal agent Ed Cherry who sold the Hewitts the beach house said the celebrity couple had only stayed there three or four times since picking it up.

“They bought it because of Bec’s eye for architecture and their son Cruz’s tennis commitments at one stage on the Gold Coast,” Mr Cherry said. “I ran into Lleyton once or twice at Tarte café in Burleigh and he loved the area’s village feel.”

The Hewitts had already moved on by the time the transaction occurred early this year, having bought their Glenhaven stunner renovated and redesigned by Three Birds Renovations – a firm run by a trio of friends Erin Cayless, Lana Taylor and Bonnie Hindmarsh who are all wives of former Parramatta Eels stars – Nathan Cayless, Jason Taylor and Nathan Hindmarsh.

During the redesign Mrs Hindmarsh said “this house will really be me. It’ll be exactly how I want to live and how I want my family to live for the next 10 years.”

The Hewitts reportedly paid $10.3m for the sprawling home in 2021 which was redesigned resort-style with six bedrooms and loads of room for the growing family.

It may have even been a cash deal, given the Hewitts had that same year sold their stunning Toorak home in Melbourne for $15.2m, a figure which no doubt paved the way well for their current homes.

The Toorak home was sold by the Hewitts for a whopping $15.2m in 2021.

He has owned other property too including Palm Beach in Sydney, and grew up in West Lakes in a home with a tennis court that his parents have since put up for sale.

During the hall of fame ceremony, Mr Hewitt paid tribute to his “beautiful kids” as well – Mia, Cruz and Ava – for making it all “incredibly special”.

The Australian Davis Cup captain, who played his last singles match in the Australian Open in 2016, is currently partnering with his teenage son Cruz in the New South Wales open.
