A homeowner’s immaculate lawn has been left in ruins after an Amazon driver’s shortcut triggered a compensation battle and experts warning the damage could take months to repair.
What seemed like an innocent move to bypass parking and walking up a long walkway – or driving up the driveway – a delivery driver chose their own bizarre route, leaving ripped up turf on a homeowners immaculate front lawn.
The homeowners have since complained to Amazon, who the delivery driver was working for, and who responded by saying that they would pay for the expenses to fix the turf and they were “investigating the matter internally.”
A delivery driver has taken a bizarre route that has completely ruined their lawn.
While Amazon was taking the matter seriously, people commenting on videos of the incident posted to social media chose to see the humour in the situation.
“At least she placed the package carefully,” one person said.
“Saw this on Lawn & Order,” said another.
“I guess the driveway is just for decoration now,” another posted.
Tyre damage to grass can be hard to recover, according to Lawn Solutions Australia’s Nathan Edwards.
“While it may seem like a harmless shortcut, driving across a lawn can cause significant damage, even if it only happens once,” Mr Edwards said.
“The weight of a vehicle compacts the soil beneath the turf, restricting airflow to the root zone and making it much harder for the lawn to recover.”
The homeowners sought compensation from Amazon after the delivery driver ruined the grass.

He said tyre traffic could be particularly damaging when soils were wet.
“In these conditions, tyres can leave deep ruts, tear grass plants from the soil and physically remove sections of turf, often resulting in damage that can take weeks or even months to fully repair.”
Minor tyre damage can be repaired by first relieving soil compaction with a garden fork or lawn aerator then levelling out any ruts with a quality sandy lawn top-dressing mix.
Regular watering and a light application of fertiliser will help encourage new growth and speed up recovery, according to Mr Edwards.
Where turf has been severely torn or displaced, this could be a harder job to recover.
“Replacing damaged sections with new turf may be the quickest and most effective solution,” Mr Edwards said.
“Warm season grasses such as Buffalo, Couch and Zoysia generally recover best during spring and summer when they are actively growing.”
For homeowners who regularly need vehicle access across their lawn, such as when parking caravans, trailers or boats, he said selecting a more wear tolerant turf variety from the outset can make a significant difference.
For Australian homeowners who do have vehicles on their lawn, there is a solution.
