More than a few folk have loved having a beer with Duncan and his wife Ann Maree at their Girraween home, but the McKinstrays are calling last drinks and listing their rural escape complete with private bar and outdoor cinema for sale.

The couple have owned the 3.56ha property at 145 Pioneer Drive, Girraween, for 25 years with three generations of their family calling it home at one point or another.

“We were living in Driver in Palmerston when we bought it and our children were younger, so we thought we’d go out there and enjoy the lifestyle,” Mrs McKinstray said.

“The property was pretty run down – it needed a bit of TLC – but we were enthusiastic and young and could see the big picture at the end.”

The couple updated the house, beautified the gardens and lawns and added a huge entertainment precinct incorporating a games room with bar, a covered outdoor entertaining space and an outdoor cinema next to the pool.

“We’ve had a lot celebrations and parties there,” Mrs McKinstray said.

“We’ve had 18th and 21st parties, engagements and we’ve even had a wedding here.

“There’s been pizza nights and State of Origin nights with friends – we’re Queensland supporters.

“We put the game on the big screen and the kids would watch it while swimming in the pool.”

The property has the main home, the entertainment precinct, a two-bedroom granny flat, a third guest space with bedroom and bathroom, and a sprawling shed zone with two sheds linked by a central carport.

The main home has a wraparound veranda, central kitchen, a lounge room and an open plan living and dining room.

The kitchen has a walk-in pantry, island bench, five-burner gas cooktop, freestanding oven and modern white cabinetry.

The main bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite and the two remaining bedrooms have built-in robe.

There’s also a family bathroom and an internal laundry.

In the games room, there is a full size bar and space for a lounge plus a pool table, while bi-fold doors open to the covered entertaining area, pool and outdoor cinema.

The granny flat has two-bedrooms, one bathroom, an open plan kitchen and living space, a veranda and a store room.

The third guest space has a bedroom and ensuite and sits off one of the sheds.

The block also comes with animal pens, dog runs and multiple fenced paddocks.

Mrs McKinstray said the property had been the perfect place to raise children, host guests and make memories.

“This pale is not just a house, it’s a home,” she said.

“My doors were always open.

“I loved being able to give me children – and grandchildren on different occasions – the opportunity to live here and grow up in a rural environment.

“They played in the paddock on quad bikes, we had horses and we had the space to teach the kids how to drive on the property.

“We’ve had camp-overs with the kids and their friends on holidays. They could bring bikes and horses and roast marshmallows over the fire pit.”

Mrs McKinstray said she hoped her home would be bought by someone who would treasure it as much as her family did.

“We’re very house proud people and we’d love whoever buys the property to be part of that as well,” she said.

“It’s a completely different lifestyle living here and the property ticks a lot of boxes.

“We can have space to socialise, have our friends over and have extended family visit.

“At one point we’ve had five dogs here and chickens.

“We’ve set up such a nice community of friends here as well where everyone looks out for each other here.”

The McKinstrays are selling to downsize but they will miss their slice of rural paradise.

“I’ve created so many memories here never to be forgotten but we’re going to move onto the next chapter of our lives,” Mrs McKinstray said.
