A new family will soon call a historic Adelaide Hills acreage estate home for the first time in 106 years.
Owner David Kuchel’s grandfather purchased the Flaxley property at 70 Whites Rd in 1920, before it was passed to his father, and then eventually to him in 1984.
Mr Kuchel says he is proud to have had such a long and strong connection to the home, which he has listed for sale.

“It’s humbling – I’ve been able to live my whole life here,” he says.
“It’s a lovely outlook and I think the key to the location is we’re 40 minutes from the centre of Adelaide, we’ve got all of the services of Mount Barker handy.
“We’re so central to all of the different regions too, and we’ve never taken that for granted.”
The acreage property, which is listed with a $2.75m price guide, is on 47.7ha.
With great soil and water, Mr Kuchel says the home is ideal for hobby farmers, with he and his wife Wendy able to run 48 breeding beef units in a normal year without having to buy in fodder.

The couple also at one point agisted up to 65 Friesian heifers on the property.
The house, which Mr Kuchel says has a rich history, has three bedrooms, an open-plan kitchen and dining area, and extensive verandas from which to enjoy stunning rural vistas.
“We’ve experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows here, but it has been a wonderful place to live – I travel around Australia a fair bit and an enormous smile comes over my face every time I come back home and drive up that driveway.
“It’s an experience I’ll be forever grateful for.”
