Dame Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand’s prime minister for six years, has been seen looking at property on Sydney’s northern beaches fuelling speculation she and her family might be jumping over the ditch.
Ardern and her television presenter husband Clarke Gayford were spotted at a couple of properties for sale in the beachside suburbs of Curl Curl and Freshwater and were also seen eating at a Mexican restaurant in Dee Why.
Ardern became the world’s youngest female head of government in 2017 and won praise for her introduction of strict gun laws after the 2019 Christchurch mosque shootings and her response to the Covid pandemic in which New Zealand contained the virus.
The former Labour leader stood down as Prime Minister in 2023 and moved to the US for a couple of years before going to the UK at the end of last year.

But the couple’s sightings this month on the northern beaches suggest they might be considering calling Australia home.
In December last year, Gayford told a media outlet he would be looking for work but TV was a difficult industry and in New Zealand a small industry. He recently produced a documentary on Jacinda, called Prime Minister, and presented a show called Fish of the Day. He has often spoken of his love of the ocean.
Last weekend, Ardern made a low-key visit to Gerringong with the local paper reporting her meeting local leaders at the Gerringong Community Expo.

Word on the street suggests the couple are looking for a good family home in a beachside suburb. The couple have one daughter, Neve, who is seven.
In Auckland back in 2018 the couple bought a 1920s four-bedroom home with big picture windows and a deck.
Based on that house we put together a selection of northern beaches homes, in the $5m-$6m range, that might suit.
Number 22 Glen St, Freshwater is a new five-bedroom home in a cul-de-sac position a short stroll to Freshwater village and beach. It is due to be auctioned through Cunninghams Northern Beaches but there is no auction date given yet.
