A grand Pymble estate, once home to pioneering filmmakers Charles and Elsa Chauvel who discovered Errol Flynn, has come to market with a $10m guide.


A renovated Pymble mansion, once home to pioneering filmmakers Charles and Elsa Chauvel who discovered Errol Flynn, has come to market with a $10m guide.

Hilltop in Pymble Ave is a 1930s estate on 2649sqm of land with a five-bedroom house, heated saltwater pool and spa, full size tennis court and pristine grounds.

It is a short walk to Pymble station and even closer to Pymble Ladies College.

James Yahl, of Chanyahl, said 61 Pymble Ave was one of the suburb’s most historically significant properties masterfully renovated.

The mansion at 61 Pymble Ave, Pymble is known as Hill Top and it was once owned by filmmakers who discovered Errol Flynn.

The Chauvels purchased Hilltop in 1939. Charles was known for his films Forty Thousand Horsemen, Jedda and Rats of Tobruk but he also famously discovered Errol Flynn, offering him his first film role.

Flynn rented further along Pymble Ave in his early career before achieving worldwide fame as a swashbuckling handsome lead actor known for his romantic Hollywood roles and womanising.

The estate is now owned by the Stoodley family who bought it for $2.71m in 2014 before undertaking a comprehensive renovation.

Now the house has indoor and outdoor entertainment areas including a pool, five bathrooms, a granite kitchen with butler’s pantry, Siemens steam oven and two dishwashers, a servery to outside and a second, barbecue, kitchen on the covered patio.

The northerly aspect, circular driveway and double garaging with internal access makes for a grand family home. Hilltop goes to auction on Monday November 10.
