A veteran Gold Coast real estate agent is selling his family’s Southport home – held since 1966 – alongside the daughter he once employed as a teenage receptionist.
Rodney Falcke is farewelling his three-bedroom home at 38 Meron St after an eventful 60 years.

The house is on a 506sq m site at 38 Meron St, Southport.
“The property has been handed down through the family from generation to generation — from mother to son, and then between husband and wife,” Mr Falcke said.
“It was always known as the party house.
“More so one that people could always pop in for a drink or 10.
“All were welcome always.”
The house, on the market for the first time, sits on a 506sq m block and includes a pool and garage.

Mr Falcke, who started working as a real estate agent in 1980 with Elders in Surfers Paradise, said “not in a million years” could he have predicted the mammoth transformation the Gold Coast has undergone.
“There was vacant land all around my property and Southport was much quieter and less developed than it is today,” said the father-of-two and grandfather-of-10.
“Development is quite impressive throughout Southport now which is great to see.”

Mr Falcke’s real estate career saw him become the first Elders franchisee in Australia before selling the business and opening Rod Falcke Real Estate in Broadbeach.
“Back in 1980, there was far less documentation, and more business was done with a handshake,” he said.
“Your word was your bond, and your handshake and reputation were often more valuable than any document.
“These are the values I instilled in my daughter, who is now carrying on the family legacy under a different name, but with the same values.”

His daughter Kelley Rigby, of Harcourts Property Hub, is marketing the family home and will take it to auction on August 22.
“I started working with dad when I was 16 as the Saturday morning receptionist,” she said.
“My jobs included sticking the property captions into the real estate bulletin, answering the phones and taking out the bins.
“I then became dad’s personal assistant before eventually becoming a real estate agent in my own right.
“It has been quite a journey, and it is very special to now be selling the family home together.”
She said as well as being move-in ready, the property could also suit someone who wanted to build their dream home in Southport.

A joint report from iBuyNew and Hotspotting gives a glimpse into the massive economic engine kicking into gear as Brisbane’s Olympic Games get closer.
The report pinpointed a “golden cluster” of suburbs including Southport, Labrador, Benowa, Ashmore, Molendinar, and Arundel.
These postcodes were all set to reap the biggest rewards from Olympic infrastructure like the Southport Arena, the Benowa Athlete Village, and the Labrador Hockey Centre.
Vacancy rates in each remained well below 3 per cent while Southport houses led the local pack for recent capital growth.
