Gold Coast real estate: Drab to fab waterfront makeover

1 day ago 2

From brown brick 1980s-era blank canvas to a chic and contemporary family home, a waterfront Gold Coast residence has been totally re-imagined courtesy of an epic renovation.

Located in a quiet cul-de-sac in sought-after Hollywell, the recently completed property at 26 Magellan Ave now

features six bedrooms, multiple living areas, ample parking, and a waterfront swimming pool after a mammoth property transformation spanning two-and-a-half years.

For owners Nick and Gorana Popovich, the herculean home reno was a long-held ambition

they hoped to tick off their bucket list.

Originally from Sydney, the couple moved to the Gold Coast with their four children and purchased the property in 2021.

“A renovation was something I’d always wanted to do,” Mr Popovich said.

“And this was totally original but obviously had great bones.”

With the family living in the home throughout the renovation, the property was stripped back

and gutted room by room.

It was also reconfigured and extended to incorporate a former garage into the floorplan, adding two additional bedrooms and an extra bathroom, while a 7m magnesium swimming

pool was built overlooking the water.

“Almost everything is new, including a new Colorbond roof, new windows and shutters throughout, a new hot water system, and updated plumbing and wiring,” Mr Popovich said.

“We pretty much took it back to a shell and renovated it room by room.

“The aim was to create a family friendly home that could also serve as a multi-generational

house, where you can accommodate a large family, a small family, adult children or the in- laws.”

Completed only recently, the renovation has seen the home transform into a spacious and

light-filled residence with multiple living areas and a low-maintenance lifestyle.

Gone are all traces of brown brick exteriors, dated timber accents, and slate interior flooring, instead replaced with a neutral colour palette and chic high-end finishes.

“I particularly love the outdoor space,” Mr Popovich said.

“It’s undercover with a barbecue and it overlooks the pool and water.

“We spend a lot of time enjoying that outside entertaining area, watching the kids in the pool,

or enjoying the sunrise and seeing the occasional dolphin swim past.”

The property also boasts a two-car garage, additional secure parking for four cars, and 18m

of waterfrontage, including a jetty and private boat pontoon,

“The fishing is great. You can literally drop a line in off your own private jetty,” Mr Popovich

said.

The waterfront side of the home faces due east, with distant views of the high-rise of Surfers

Paradise from the upper storey.

“Come New Year’s Eve you can see the fireworks from the top level, but the general aspect is leafy and green as there’s a nature reserve at the end of the street.”

Mr Popovich noted the property’s position was a major drawcard, offering easy access to

Hope Island, Sanctuary Cove, and the Broadwater.

“Hollywell is this fabulous Gold Coast enclave that’s quiet but is within a walk or drive to

everything,” Mr Popovich said.

“It’s a hidden gem that offers the best of both worlds.”

After pouring his heart and soul into giving the home a new lease on life, Mr Popovich and

his family are now headed back to Sydney and have put the home on the market with Mitch

Booth of Amir Prestige Group, Paradise Point.

“I hope it goes to a family who really enjoy it, whether it’s for entertaining, multi-generational living or as a place for a large family to call home,” Mr Popovich said.
