This Waurn Ponds farmhouse has been in the Redpath family for 50 years.

The long-time home of late Australian cricketer Ian Redpath has hit the market in Waurn Ponds.

The Test star and opening batter’s family is offloading the 3912sq m property at 76-80 Ghazeepore Rd following his death in 2024.

It’s home to a weatherboard farmhouse, where Redpath and his late wife Christine lived for their entire married life, raising four children.

Fellow cricketers including Max Walker, Alan Connolly, Dennis Lillee, Paul Sheahan, Keith Stackpole and the Chappell brothers were among frequent visitors over the years.

The four-bedroom home has been in the family for half a century and originally occupied a larger rural property, which has been since been carved off for residential development.

It remains one of the few acreage parcels inside the Geelong Ring Road.

Barry Plant, South Barwon listing agent Deane Hughes is taking the property to auction on March 14 with $1.75m to $1.9m price hopes.

The family described it as a “utopian place to grow up”.

“It was several acres flanked by 50m-tall pine trees. There was a one-acre market garden, there was a tennis court that Dad personally installed and cricket pitches,” they said.

A brick open fireplace is the centrepiece of the living room.

French doors connect the kitchen to the garden.

The Test cricketers love of antiques is evident throughout the house.

Their English-born mother oversaw the creation of the “magical” cottage garden that remains a highlight to this day.

It complements the classic style of the double-fronted house which showcases period features including high ceilings, decorative plasterwork, Baltic pine hardwood floors and multiple open fireplaces.

The couple ran Redpath’s Antiques in Geelong for many years and their love of antique furniture is reflected in the interior styling.

The business was born while Redpath was coaching county cricket in England while on an injury break from the Australian Test team.

All the surrounding land has already been carved up for development.

“They shipped their first container load of English-procured antiques back, which was the start of Redpath’s Antiques and it’s been a theme going forward,” the family said.

“When (the business) closed down the shed was built and that became his workshop and haven. Now, from a functional perspective, it’s a great space for whoever buys it.”

The house provides a flexible floorplan incorporating a central bathroom, functional open-plan kitchen/dining area and a large living room with French doors onto a north-facing patio.

An Australian Cricket Hall of Fame member, Redpath played 66 Tests for his country after making his Test debut in 1963-64.

He made 4737 runs at an average of 43.5 with eight centuries and went on to coach Victoria, helping emerging talents like Damien Fleming.
