EXCLUSIVE: Google Founder Sergey Brin and Ex-Wife Nicole Shanahan’s Former Marital Home Is Listed as $175K-a-Month ‘Summer Rental’

14 hours ago 2

The elegant Malibu estate that Google founder Sergey Brin purchased with his ex-wife, Nicole Shanahan, is now being offered up as a luxurious "summer rental," complete with a very high-end asking price of $175,000 a month.

Brin, 52, and his former spouse—who went on to join Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s short-lived presidential campaign—bought the "dreamy" Point Dume dwelling for $35 million in September 2020, just over a year before it was revealed that they had split after three years of marriage.

The details of their divorce settlement, which was finalized in 2023, were never fully revealed, however reports suggest that Shanahan walked away with around $1 billion in assets, including shares in Alphabet, Google's parent company.

However, it has never been revealed how the former couple split up their shared properties—although Brin purchased another Malibu residence for $35 million just a few months after their separation, a move that many saw as a sign that Shanahan, 40, had kept their former marital home.

Property records view by Realtor.com® show that the five-bedroom, 7.5-bathroom dwelling is currently registered to a limited liability company in Nevada that is managed by Shanahan's family office. That LLC lists the same mailing address as her charitable organization, the Bia-Echo Foundation, which is named for the former couple's daughter, Echo.

While it's unclear whether Shanahan ever used the property as her primary residence, she revealed in an October 2025 interview with Frontier Magazine that she was living in a different California property: a mountaintop ranch where she was residing with her partner, Jacob Strumwasser.

The rental listing for the Malibu dwelling, which is held by Michael Cunningham of Pinnacle Estate Properties, notes that it has undergone a very extensive series of overhauls in recent months, describing it as a "newly completed retreat."

Hailed as "the most desirable summer rental on the Point," the property is being offered as both a long-term rental—with an asking price of $125,000 a month—and as a shorter-term "summer rental" between the months of June and September, with an asking price of $175,000 a month.

The property comes complete with an array of very upscale features and amenities, including "keyed access to Little Dume beach," a stunning stretch of sand that is known as one of Malibu's best areas for surfing.

But for those who prefer the comfort of their own home, the dwelling itself has plenty to offer, both inside and out. Situated on a 1.2-acre plot, it comes complete with a dazzling swimming pool with a large spa and a pagoda-style area for shade.

The parcel is incredibly private thanks to the gated entrance, which opens up to a long driveway leading up to the primary residence, as well as the tall trees that surround the home, adding another barrier against prying eyes.

As for the home itself, the listing describes it as the "epitome of 'quiet luxury,'" noting that no expense has been spared on its design, from the top-of-the-line materials used throughout the dwelling to the incredible craftsmanship that went into the renovation.

"Designed with an impeccable eye for detail, the home features plaster walls, 10-inch wide Spanish white oak floors, Botticino marble, and fine aggregate terrazzo," the listing notes. "Bespoke tile work, unpolished brass Waterworks fixtures, and curated lighting create a custom atmosphere that feels bright and airy."

Upon entering the home, visitors are greeted with a spacious, airy foyer that opens up to an elegant dining space and living room, which features walls of windows that fill it with natural light. Curved ceilings help to add a truly elevated feel to the space, which also boasts its own fireplace.

The dining area separates the living space from the enormous open-plan kitchen, which features another large table, as well as a curved island, and huge French doors that open to a private deck overlooking the grounds.

For those with a fondness for entertaining, a second meal prep area with its own stove and additional appliances will no doubt prove to be one of the most-used spaces in the dwelling.

Elsewhere on the main floor are a media room—which the listing notes could also be turned into an office or library—as well as a "generous gym and wellness suite that opens directly to the sun deck."

"The second floor features a beautiful, thoughtfully planned luxurious primary suite," the description adds. "There is the bedroom and sitting area with tree top and ocean views. The spa-like bathroom, multiple closets and dressing areas are set on the other side of the suite offering a truly peaceful executive suite experience."

Two other bedrooms can be found on this upper level, each with their own bathroom, while another bedroom is located in a separate apartment space with its own private entrance, as well as an additional kitchen and living room.

In keeping with Shanahan's focus on healthy living, the home has been outfitted with the highest-quality wellness upgrades, including "clean technology and nontoxic materials, including: state-of-the-art VRF system for silent temperature regulation; reduced-plastic construction: copper and cast iron plumbing throughout; rigid metal HVAC ducting and sustainable denim insulation; EMF-reduction efforts: steel conduit wiring and shielded sleeping zones."

As well as Brin, the property has a very impressive history of A-list residents, having previously been owned by pop star Pink, who purchased it for $11.9 million in 2010 and used it as her primary residence until 2016, when she sold it for $12.5 million.

The property is also located just one mile away from Brin's so-called Malibu bachelor pad, which he bought for $35 million in April 2022, just a few months after it was revealed that he and Shanahan had split.

He has since expanded his Malibu holdings to include another, even pricier property, which he picked up for $49.7 million in July 2025.

However, Brin has recently joined the growing list of billionaires pulling their fortunes out of California amid the ongoing threat of the state's billionaire tax, a one-time wealth tax of 5% on individuals worth more than $1 billion.

The Google co-founder has been outspoken in his criticism of the tax, going as far as to liken California to the socialist Soviet Union when asked about his reasons for leaving the state.

"I fled socialism with my family in 1979 and know the devastating, oppressive society it created in the Soviet Union. I don’t want California to end up in the same place," he told The New York Times in April.

Brin has, quite literally, put his money where his mouth is, snapping up several properties outside of California in anticipation of the tax, including a $42 million mansion on the Nevada shore of Lake Tahoe and a $51 million Miami Beach dwelling that he bought from LVMH CEO Michael Burke at the start of the year.

The Miami property is located on the exclusive Allison Island, a 35-acre stretch of land that sits in the Biscayne Bay, between La Gorce and Miami Beach. The 24-hour guard-gated island is home to fewer than 50 single-family homes—which occupy about three-quarters of the isle, while the rest is home to a few condo buildings and hotels.

It was custom built for Burke and his wife, Brigitte Burke, in 2019, five years after they purchased the 1-acre plot of land on which the home now sits for $11.7 million.

The spectacular property spreads across nearly 10,000 square feet of living space, and offers seven bedrooms, 8.5 bathrooms, a sparkling waterfront pool, and a private dock. It features a very modernist design, with two separate wings of the home connected by a central walkthrough area.

It's unclear whether Brin has any plans to offload either of his Malibu homes in the wake of his move out of California, however neither dwelling is currently listed on the MLS.
