Epping couple’s first home sells for $756k in seven-minute auction

An Epping couple selling their first home were over the moon when it changed hands for $756,000 over the weekend.

Husband and wife Roger and Angela listed their house at 10 Mottled Ave with $650,000-$690,000 price hopes but five bidders drove it to sell above the range.

Roger said more than a decade ago when they purchased the home in Melbourne’s outer north, there was farmland at the end of their street and kangaroos would hop past – however suburb has greatly increased in size since then.

He and other residents formed a community association within their Aurora estate to organise activities such as second-hard markets and talk with local government about issues the area was facing.

“We knew a lot of people at the time, so those are the really good memories we have for the area,” Roger said.

He and Angela bought the three-bedroom house while aged in their thirties after working hard to save money for a deposit.

Roger, who works in IT, said although it sounded cliche, they put the funds together through “budget and discipline”.

He has since bought and sold two investment properties in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

The upsizing couple are planning to put some of the funds from one of the sales towards their next home purchase.

Roger said their favourite part of the Epping home was the outdoor space with a garden irrigated through the residence’s recycled water service.

The abode with a seven-star energy rating also features two bathrooms, bi-fold doors which open to the alfresco area, a double garage and kitchen fitted with a 900mm cooktop and oven, plus a Bosch dishwasher.

Ray White Wollert director Michael Assaad said Angela and Roger were ecstatic when their home sold on Saturday for “way more” than both he and they were anticipating.

The auction, conducted by Mr Assaad’s colleague and cousin Mike Assaad, lasted just seven minutes and saw the home placed on the market at the $726,000 mark.

One of the bidders was an interstate-based investor while the four others were from Melbourne.

Mr Assaad said the successful buyer, a local, loved how the home looked.

“He said that he’d gone around the area and he’d seen other homes and nothing was presented like this,” Mr Assaad added.
