All eyes are on Elon Musk’s future property plans as rumours swirl about a lavish mansion for his two wives and 11 children.

Owner of Tesla and social media platform X (formerly Twitter) Elon Musk has reportedly acquired a mansion in Texas that is as mysterious as a haunted castle, aimed a housing his 11 children along with their two mothers.

This Tuscany-inspired villa is not just a personal retreat but a place for his family to coexist, according to the New York Times.

This estate, surrounded by multimillion-dollar homes, was envisioned as a family lair where his children and mothers can dwell side-by-side, enchanting his younger offspring with the magic of growing up together.

A six-bedroom mansion hidden behind the rumoured main villa also belongs to Musk, crafting a vision that’s as grand as the AU$53.25m (US$35m) price tag.

Musk who is a staunch advocate for population growth through IVF, has reportedly offered his own ‘magical’ contribution to friends and acquaintances, though not all have accepted his unusual proposition.

As co-founder of Tesla and SpaceX, and driven by fears of Earth’s uncertain future, he dreams of a Mars colony.

Recently, he has shifted focus to the ominous decline in birthrates, actively advocating for increasing family sizes on his platform X (formerly Twitter).

However, when rumours about this mysterious family compound in Texas began swirling, Musk dismissed them to publication Page Six, labelling stories of the extravagant estate as untrue.

“I don’t own, nor am I building a compound in Austin,” Musk told Page Six.

Despite his net worth topping $412 billion (US$271 billion), the legendary inventor insisted that no such expansive dwelling existed.

Fascinating stories of Musk’s ambitious visions have floated before.

Last year, whispers of a Texan “utopia” emerged — a town named Snailbrook near his bustling SpaceX and Boring Company campuses.

Musk acquired over 1416ha just outside Austin for this ambitious plan, envisioning it as a “utopia” for employees to live and work, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Between 2020 and 2021 Musk divested himself of all seven houses that he owned for a total of roughly $194.5m (US$127.9m).

Some of Musk’s real estate ventures over the years include:

Bel Air – California

In 2012, Elon Musk made his inaugural move into the upscale California neighbourhood of Bel Air, purchasing a sprawling mansion for $25.85m (US$17m).

The property initially served as a rental for Musk from 2010, but he eventually opted to make it his permanent residence.

This magnificent home boasts seven bedrooms, a two-storey library, a pool, and a tennis court, all offering scenic views of the Bel-Air Country Club.

After Musk’s vow to divest himself of his properties, he placed the mansion on the market for AU$45.6m (US$30m) in 2020.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the property was sold to Chinese billionaire William Ding.

Gene Wilder’s Former Home

A Los Angeles residence once graced by Gene Wilder — the original Willy Wonka — was once owned by Musk and has recently returned to the market.

The former Bel Air abode of Wilder was sold by Tesla’s founder, Elon Musk, to the late actor’s nephew, Jordan Walker-Pearlman, and his wife, Elizabeth Hunter, in 2020. Musk extended a substantial loan to assist the couple with the purchase, but they defaulted on the property.

The property is now listed for $19.71m (US$12.95m).

Hillsborough – California

In 2017, Elon Musk acquired a sprawling mansion in Hillsborough, California, for $35.62m (US$23.4m).

This heritage property, dating back to 1912, features a lavishly restored and expanded 5-star kitchen capable of accommodating a personal chef.

The estate houses a grand living room with refurbished windows, a library adorned with leather-clad walls and a fireplace, alongside separate cocktail and dining rooms.

Initially, Musk put the property on the market for $57.08m (US$37.5m) but later adjusted the price to US$32m, where he secured a buyer.

Tiny Home Venture

During Elon Musk’s endeavour to divest himself of his material assets, he paused to acquire a modest $AU76,038 (US$50,000) tiny home in Boca Chica, Texas, the location of SpaceX’s launch facility.

In 2020, Musk opted to sell his collection of five lavish residences, choosing instead to make a austere two-bedroom house in Boca Chica his main dwelling. “We would meet here,” wrote biographer Walter Isaacson on X (formerly Twitter), where Musk would sit at this wooden table and conduct phone calls.

In 2021, tiny home company Boxabl installed one of their tiny homes a “Casita”— on Musk’s SpaceX’s launch site.
