Goldicott, built in 1885, has long been a defining part of Brisbane’s architectural story.

The college, in partnership with the Presbyterian Methodist Schools Association, paid $17m in 2022 for the sprawling 1.23ha property with plans to retain it as an education asset.

They have since subdivided the block and have put a 5711sq m parcel that includes Goldicott House on the market.

“From the outset, we recognised the importance of protecting Goldicott,” said Brisbane Boys’ College headmaster Andre Casson.

“While we considered various ways it might serve the college, we believe its best future is as a residence – lived in, loved, and celebrated every day.”

As part of the decision, Brisbane Boys’ College will retain the adjoining 6629sq m block, while the historic home and its gardens are being offered for sale via Place New Farm’s Heath Williams.

Goldicott was designed by architect A.B. Wilson for bank manager Charles Patterson.

Its pioneering construction and design have stood the test of time with the property well-known across the city.

Developers had previously sought to demolish Goldicott but objections from locals based on the historic nature of the estate caused plans to be rejected by council.

Mr Williams said the opportunity to purchase Goldicott was almost unheard of.

“Goldicott is a Brisbane icon,” Mr Williams said.

“It’s a landmark opportunity for someone to take custodianship of a home with immense history and heart, and to continue its story with the guidance of an architectural vision that respects everything that makes it special.”

Potential buyers can review a never-before-seen master plan concept for the property, prepared by Cavill Architects.

The bespoke design framework shows how Goldicott could be renovated for modern living, while honouring its architectural legacy.
