When this Victorian era home, protected by a heritage overlay, sold at auction in 2021 for just over $1.05 million in East Geelong, the vendors’ final bid to secure the home was a mere $20.
“I put in a final bid of $20 against a buyer’s advocate as I knew the people he was representing were shaking their heads, suggesting to him they had reached their limit,” explain the vendors.
“When the auctioneer put the final hammer down, the crowd of about 200 erupted in laughter as we won the auction by $20, which, at the time, he had to accept that amount as a bid.”

Then, the now-extensively renovated home at 3 Connor St, East Geelong, was what the vendors described as being in a state of “disarray.”
The once dilapidated Victorian home at 3 Connor St, East Geelong is now a stunning residence.
Extensive renovating at the rear of the property has created a dream outdoor area with a pool and barbecue area.
“When we purchased it, rainwater was running inside in all areas. It was rented to a, and they had spent two weeks emptying the place out,” they explained.
“We immediately had the house restumped and had a carpenter there for a few months attending to the frame before we put a new roof on.”
After sketching the plans, the vendors then commissioned local tradespeople to help plan and renovate the home, a process that included a new extension and took about 18 months.
“We built the house for a mid-50s couple, but it would also suit a young family,” the vendors say.

“We believe the location is one of the best in Geelong,” they say.
“The house is on the fringe of Geelong city, and we walk into town most weekends.”
