Created on a canvas of sand and sea, Atelier on Freycinet is a work of art.
Harcourts Hobart property representative, Mark Weaver, describes it as far more than a house, saying it is “an awe-inspiring building set against the backdrop of Tasmania’s famous East Coast peninsula”.
“The property is known as Atelier, a French word for a room or building in which an artist works,” Mr Weaver said.
“I see this two ways. First, the builder and architect as the artist. Or, the house, as an inspiring place for an artist to be in, to live in.”

Mr Weaver said Atelier was designed by architect Jamie McCutcheon and built in 2021 by local construction firm Lawton Builders.
He said it was a home where the bold architecture grabs your attention initially, and then the exquisite eye for details is revealed while touring the home.
“An example is the stacked stone terracing, created using locally sourced materials,” he said.
“The combination of concrete with beechwood panelling and curved timber features gives the house a sleek sophistication. Plus, it has Tasmanian oak floors and spotted gum decks. It’s a lovely combination.
“The home gathers pristine rain water in four 22,000L tanks — the best water in the world, no doubt.
“For me, the highlight is the freestanding bath in the main bathroom, with the opportunity to open the bi-fold windows. It’s unbelievable.
“Once people have a look at this home, that’s all it will take. It’s gorgeous, they will fall in love with it.”

With its stunning views of Great Oyster Bay, the five-bedroom property boasts an open-plan design that maximises its coastal setting.
Large windows and sliding doors frame sweeping vistas from every room, creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
The main living area features gleaming Tasmanian oak floors and birch panel ceilings, complemented by concrete elements that add a contemporary touch.

A modern kitchen forms the heart of the home, equipped with high-end European appliances including induction cooktops, a double oven, and a dedicated wine fridge. The butler’s pantry doubles as a laundry, providing ample storage and preparation space.
Each bedroom opens to timber decks, offering private outdoor spaces with views spanning from Great Oyster Bay to the Hazards Mountain Range, Cooks Beach, and Schouten Island.
Downstairs, there is a bedroom and a large lounge area, ideal for guests or family members seeking additional privacy.

Adding to the property’s versatility is a separate one-bedroom annex with its own deck.
This additional space could serve as a teenager’s retreat, a place for the family to stay, or provide an opportunity for short-term rental income.
The house sits on a private, gently sloped, 1633sq m parcel of land.
Mr Weaver said the property’s position is sensational, and has its advantages.
“It sits just outside the National Park, which means guests won’t need a parks pass to come visit and if you have pets, that’s no problem.
“And you have all that the park offers right there on your doorstep.
“From golf to fishing, world-class hiking trails, water sports opportunities, mountain biking routes to surf breaks, everything is at your fingertips.”

Mr Weaver said Coles Bay and Swanwick had shown remarkable pricing trends.
“They’ve been immune to the downturn of recent times. Prices are 6 per cent higher now than at the peak of mid-2022. And 182 per cent higher over the decade,” he said.
“For an investor looking for capital growth and yield, this is a Tasmanian destination that delivers.
“When used for short-stay accommodation, Atelier attracts anywhere from $560 per night up to about $1000 per night at peak times.”
Atelier stands as a testament to thoughtful design, seamlessly blending with its natural surroundings while offering modern comforts and versatile living options in one of Tasmania’s most sought-after locations.
